mommylaw, what a wild ride you have been on! And what a surprising reaction re your D’s former fave!

I’m really quite bummed, however, as you probably all know how much our formerly unaffiliated (I teach at UCLA and DH graduated from UCLA) family has come to LOVE USC where S1 has had 3 amazing years. It is not the USC of old, but I do understand that not every university is just right for everyone. My sons are not into the Greek scene, partying hard, or even into football, but S1 has found many cool, creative & intellectual friends of subtle wit and deep sarcasm plus great creative drive and focus. Just his sort. So–selfishly–I was happy to read that USC had generously upped your FinAid but then I know any strong decision from your D is excellent progress. Not sure if she might have been turned off, too, amid the hoopla of that admitted students’ days or seen too many kids that seemed un-like herself. It’s a lot of self-promotion and rah-rah. That is the reason my S2 did not attend–he doesn’t like to feel like he’s being sold on anything. heh. So–while I do respect your D’s good choices for herself, I’m disappointed that we won’t be hanging out together at parents weekend (aw) as…

It’s true! It’s true! We are walking with big smiles down the gang-plank!

S2 is going to join S1 at University of Southern California–so all cracks about same must stop!! ;)

Sorry to miss the 4-tier chocolate fountain at the midnight buffet. Really sorry. But not enough to keep S2 from making this momentous (if expensive) choice. FinAid did come up with more money on appeal, S2 will work and wants to try to graduate early, and we went with our hearts. It is so wonderful to see him happy, content, and excited about college.

Polarplus sheets have been soooooo nice around here with the winter we’ve had. Ds will be downsizing to a twin from his full so unless he wants cute girly things (my 3 girls are all in twins), I am going to have to start shopping especially while the heavy stuff is on sale.

Madbean: Such wonderful news!!! I’ve been crossing my fingers that FA would come through for you and that USC would happen for your son!

Although I AM kinda sad that you too have departed the ship, as there are not very many of us left now (although I guess that means more chocolate desserts for us). D can’t decide between Brown and Columbia, and I can’t even nudge her one way, because I can’t make up my mind either. HELP!!! I want that departing complimentary cocktail! Any ideas for what to do when your kiddo loves both schools equally?

Thanks for the Mizzou link. I think the only thing that I recognized was Jesse Hall and the columns as its been a long, very long time since I was on campus.

We love fleece sheets around our house! But, before anyone runs out to buy, I think most schools have XL twins, correct? regular twin sheets won’t fit. Well, I hope S’s school has XL twins, at 6’3" a regular twin will not be comfortable.

We just got back from San Diego, I will have to catch up later, after I catch up at work!

What a long, strange trip it’s been…
The kids will all make their way safely to dry land, in their own time.
Meanwhile, many congrats to the choices they’re making!

Make sure to check with the college to determine the right size mattress; this can vary from dorm to dorm, so be specific when asking.

@slitheytove: we’ve been Passover restless here, too. Anticipating a LARGE pizza for dinner tonight.

camathmom Renaissance Mom knows both those schools well and would have some good insight-I’ll see if I can track her down-I wonder what is going on with that computer.

mamom my 6’2" son has been sleeping on a regular twin for his whole life-he never wanted to move up to a bigger bed-weird I know. So this sheet stuff is going to be annoying-not my department-hate linens, room decoration and all that-I will leave that to Thing 2.

Mommylaw: It sounds like things are getting complicated. Good luck while she sorts things out.

Madbean: Congrats on the USC decision! It looks like your son won’t have to face those cold winters after all.

Camathmom: What a great but difficult choice. Since both schools have outstanding academics, I would have your daughter focus on where she thinks she would fit in better socially.

ST and C4Three: We’re having the traditional end of Passover pizza for dinner tonight also.

Pepper: I’m glad your son got back from Spain safely.

My D1 loves dorm and apartment shopping. We spent the whole summer before she left checking things out at BBB, Target, and the department stores. Last summer we got to do it again when she moved into an apartment. D2 will probably find some ridiculously expensive bedding online.

Madbean- Hurray for the $. Even though USC was not right for me, it sounds like both your sons have chosen right for them. I figured that things had changed at the school based upon how popular and difficult it has become to get in. I hope it is everything S2 wants it to be. (P.S. I also went to UCLA back in the day, to get a paralegal degree after my BA, so my loyalties are evenly distributed. )

On x-long twin fleece sheets, Lands End still has some–though not many colors…I could find some on BBB website and yet when I went looking for the extra longs to order them–the site listed only twin…hmmm…here’s the link for the dimensions re sheets/comforters etc

On end of year events—Congrats to FishyMom and FLMathMom who have kiddos enjoying a big event this week. We’re rooting for you.

The school’s academic dinner is soon. Kiddo is glad to be part of that. The awards for superlatives aren’t given out til closer to graduation and I think some are given at graduation.

Congrats to all who are making the leaps for shore. It is so exciting to hear they are all landing safely.

Oh those Reese’s mini eggs…yummy yet they and the holiday treats have not helped my diet efforts.

We thought we were heading for shore. Halfway down the gangplank, when phone call came from wait list school with admission offer. Hurrying back on board and trying to figure out when we can visit wait list school by the weekend. Not easy with S’s school and work schedule. Definitely some turbulent seas!

The ship will stop in a few additional ports this month with the last port of call scheduled in 5 days when all final commitments to schools are due. (Note Maroon today for the latest U Chicago announcements.) :)

Just a reminder that while many schools are stating that acceptances need to be postmarked by May 1st, that date is a Sunday and the post offices are closed. The last day for postmarks is SATURDAY, APRIL 30th. (Unless your chosen port/school will accept an email or will extend to Monday, May 2nd - many will not so be careful!

Our cruise is coming to an end so be sure to get those last minute port visits scheduled before our final docking next weekend. Sign up soon and avoid being shut out or having to take what’s left!**
