Our launch is similar to yours, itsthattime.

We are flying S to school for a pre-orientation program a week before orientation. We’ll drive down with a carload of his things a week later and help him to move into his dorm and attend convocation. I’m sure it will all hit us once we’re on the long car ride back home. We are planning to attend parents weekend this year to give us a chance to connect with our not likely to communicate son.

D leaves tomorrow for her 18 day outdoor adventure. She had an overnight with her BFF last night and will return soon to finalize packing her gear. Then she is back on Labor Day for 2 days to pack everything else and move in for orientation week. I think we are pretty much done with the shopping. S was SO much easier! Her bedroom is littered with clothes–hard to decide what to take, but I am standing back and just closing the door.

One friend left last weekend to start football, but she is the first of all the girls. When she returns, all will be gone except one. I think she will be tired enough from the trek and have lots to organize and pack that she won’t miss them quite as much as now, plus she will have met many new classmates on the trip, including her roommate.

PN–sounds like your son did fine with the WT.

Whoever wanted cargo shorts for tall, slim son: try LLBean, though you may have to pay for quick shipping. 6’5" 30/36 son fits into their shorts/pants. Sometimes Kohl’s will also have smaller sizes, though questionable this late in the season.

Snork if you must, but they’re the closest to the original lineup. :)

Not sure about a Randy Jackson-less Journey. Steve Perry is a relatively unique vocalist, but to me, Journey is Neal Schon, and like his mentor, Carlos Santana, should be able to change vocalists without changing his sound too much. Let us know how this one goes.

Pat Benatar is still married to her lead guitarist.

I saw Journey a few years ago when they were on tour with Styx and REO. They weren’t bad. I love the newest lead singer’s voice. Steve Perry clone! (From the Philippines!)

I LOVE Pat B. and Neil G–her guitarist/hubby. He is from CLE and everytime the Browns score (not often) they donate money to our United Way. Loverboy is truly my guilty pleasure in that lineup.

Loverboy faves: Workin’ for the Weekend, Turn Me Loose, Hot Girls in Love, Take Me to the Top …I had a roomie who was a bit obsessed, so I know more than I should!

ReneeD7 - I was planning to see Journey/Benatar/Loverboy, too, this week. But we’ll be busy with D and move in so it wouldn’t be possible. While no one can replace Steve Perry, the new guy comes close! Have fun!

I just saw a video of Adam Lambert performing with Queen. I only watched a little (it’s 2 hours long) but seems like those two getting together is working out pretty well.

I loved Adam’s performance on Am Idol when he did Mad World. The only song I ever bought from Am Idol. Now I don’t think anyone can replace Freddy Mercury, but I can understand why the band wants to continue.

Just finished writing the letter I am going to leave behind for D2 to find after launch next week in NYC. I closed with the following quote that I got from someone here on CC two years ago when D1 was launched. I have had some eye leaking today!

If ever there is tomorrow when were not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if were apart… Ill always be with you.
– Winnie the Pooh

seiclan: We’ve had good luck with Old Navy for my 6’4" ds. They have a 36 inch inseam available on their pants and the shorts also come in a longer length. It may be that their smallest waist in the tall sizes is 34 inches though. It’s worth checking though because their prices are pretty good.

@showmom858, that quote is lovely. Not sure I could say (or write) it without becoming weepy.

My daughter is in NYC right now. She spent the summer interning there, and as of today, has transitioned to her school-year dorm. She was home for a few days last week (we are also located in “858”) and I found that it was much harder to say goodbye the second time. I realized, after not having her around for two months, just how much I enjoy having her in the house–she doesn’t even have to be saying anything–just having her around is/was great. sniff sniff

I was caught off guard by the “winnie poo hoo” poem and sprung a leak and got a lump in my throat. One of my favorite stories - we had a small ladder laying under our bed and my then 3yo boy pulled out the ladder and when I came up the stairs I could see him dancing across the ladder singing… winnie poo hoo… winnie poo hoo, just like the opening to the movie.
