gradygrad - {{{hugs}}} to you. Both of my D’s will be in college in NYC so at least they have each other. H and I will be spending the week after Thanksgiving there with them. I think my D will probably have an internship in the city next summer so I’m happy I had her here all summer.

I already mailed a card to my girl so she’ll have something waiting for her in her PO box when she checks it this weekend. It’s a photo of a yellow lab that looks just like our Harley, and a cat like our Zuzu, both looking up at the camera. Inside it says, “We have to pee.” And I wrote–“And you aren’t here to let them out! Miss you xoxo”

Our launch has become complicated and we are splitting it into 2 days. For $22 extra she can move in tomorrow so what we are doing is taking her bedding and laundry supplies down. Her roommate has been there several days (she is from China) and her third roommate will arrive Saturday. Very excited tonight!! Her sister is coming with us.

Saturday morning we will load the car up with everything else and it will be “official.” I guess these are the perks of living 90 minutes away.

(she won’t be staying until Saturday night though)

oh and we ordered all the books tonight…$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ yikes

I just assume he’ll start packing clothes after that. I wonder if he’d actually pack if I didn’t say anything.

It is the night before…D2 has her bags packed and ready to go. The third duvet she ordered arrived today. She has 4 suitcases of clothing (not including winter clothing). I asked if she packed an extension code and surge protector. Ahh, what!!!

We moved to our apartment this week. Over 300 boxes arrived, including a grand piano. The place looked like something exploded. In the midst of it, we were trying to get D2 ready.

We are leaving at 9am tomorrow. D2’s move in time is not until Fri afternoon. Our plan is to register Fri morning, get her keys and clean her room (crazy mom cleaning) before appointed move in time. She has a single, so it should be pretty easy. D1 is coming up from NYC on Fri night to help us getting her sister settled in. We are having dinner with D2’s good friend’s family. We’ll go pick up stuff D2 ordered from BB&B after move in.

Very depressing to think D2 won’t be with us next week at this time.

Another lurker joining in. We become empty nesters soon- after a very crazy week of launching and relaunching. We live in MD- On Monday DH, S2 and I fly to LA, on Tuesday we shop for all his stuff- and Wednesday move S2 into USC- where he will be in the School of Cinematic Arts-his dream school, then Thursday we fly back to MD and turn right around the next day and fly with S1 to St Louis to move him into an off campus house for his junior year at WUSTL. When S1 left, I cried for three days in anticipation of his leaving. Then 1/2 hours after we put him on the plane, I was fine. Now, 5 days before launch 2 I am again weepy. Even though I work at a job I love- so much of my psychological energy goes into being their MOM, I think I will need to get a whole new focus once they both leave… happy for them- both will be at the perfect schools for each of them, but sad to see the end of living as a family. At least when S1 left, S2 was still around to keep things lively. S1 only calls home every 3-4 weeks, I expect something similar with S2. It’s going to be mighty quiet around here! I will miss all the kids in and out and all the hustle and bustle that their lives brought to our world.

I’m in your “area”, too. My son’s headed to MIT-can’t get much farther than that. I’m just really thankful he has a friend from church and about 6 other friends from the math circle who will be there. He even found out he’s in the same dorm as 4 of the kids from math circle. And he’s got a former chess teammate already there. He’s also in touch with Campus Crusade for Christ’s Facebook group, which is where he found his roommate. 3,000 miles seems so far, but he will have friends there, and that’s comforting.

DS is upstairs choosing the college clothes as we speak. After he chooses his clothing, I will get the joy of helping him actually pack. I am hoping for less than 3 suitcases, since he will be coming home in October for a long weekend.

Nothing is packed, but she moves to USC on Wednesday. We’ll go back up to LA on Saturday to bring her bike and whatever else she “forgot”. Fortunately, it’s a freeway drive, not an airplane trip.
