<p>Just got DS’s shipping address with instructions that the college will start accepting shipped packages on August 15 (and move in/orientation starts on the 25th). I need to time when I order online items so that they don’t arrive too soon. I am getting him a 2" latex mattress topper and will order it shipped directly to the school (from the foam by mail web site). We are away from home until a few days before we fly to school (Atlanta) so I have had his “dorm mountain” set up for a while now. The boxes are sitting and waiting for us to take to ups. We will hit up Target nearest campus for the TV, printer and desk lamp. I am not sure what else I am forgetting. We purchased the bed, bath and beyond and other dorm stuff locally and boxed for shipment to save us from running around to multiple stores in an unfamiliar locale. We figure Target is one stop shopping.</p>

<p>All the stores near the campuses tend to be very crowded on move in day. I only have enough patience and tolerance to deal with one!</p>

<p>D’s housing department officially advises to make sure you pack certain popular items such as extension cords with you and don’t rely on buying them in the vicinity on moving day. They point out that with 5,000 freshman moving to campus all at once, the town Walmart and other stores simply can’t stock enough to meet the demand.</p>

<p>I am an avid lurker but infrequent poster. In the interest of getting to 100 colleges, my D can be added as attending Dartmouth College. She will launch on August 15th for her team’s preseason. However, we are spending the last week or so at her grandparents so have already packed everything up. I was extremely satisfied to get it all in the car without using a roof carrier.</p>

<p>S will be at Amherst this Fall (please add, not tech savvy here)…feeling rather numb at this point ( have another son who will be a Junior)…lots of mixed emotions. Still struggling with hoping that he made the right choice; he was so very torn between Haverford and to some extent Swarthmore. Dad is 100% sure that he made the right choice, I am not sure and S is not either…hopefully it will all be OK.
The logistics of moving him cross country are overwhelming especillay since Dad will be travelling with him.I will reluctantly stay home because my youngest will have already strated school.
The concensus seems to be that going the bed bad and beyond route is best. I have received mixed reviews on mailing to college, a dear friend recommended shipping to hotel where Dad will be for a few days. Her experience was with lost/misplaced packages at the college because of massive mailings
We have yet to get any info about dorm and roommate ssignment ( I gather it not be until mid August)… wish it was earlier

<p>86 posts already! OMG! We don’t have a dorm mountain or even a dorm molehill…I’m too confused by summer. I think we sort of have everything except towels. And clothes-- she has to wear all black to all her theatre classes and have dance shoes etc. We still haven’t gotten the official rooming assignment (though she knows her roommate) etc. Well, I’ll think about that tomorrow, said Scarlett…</p>

<p>Gwen Fairfax, I had to do a double take on the sentence about wearing all black. I wasn’t thinking about it as a requirement, more like a typical fashion look of a typical drama student :)</p>

<p>I’ve been having a quiet laugh about the number of shoes my daughter is packing. She’s pretty much the opposite of a shoe hound and lives with a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of sandals, and a pair of black flats. </p>

<p>However, she’s taking her dance stuff to school with her, so her shoe count will go WAY up. My husband says, “Those aren’t shoes. They’re equipment!”</p>

<p>DS, a walked by the bedroom in the middle of what appeared to be a heated discussion of space, impression, and future importance only to discover it was a talk about what shoes DS could take to school. I think he will start out with 10 pairs and bring the rest when he has his own room the next semester.</p>

<p>Just found this thread today. Haven’t had time to read the whole thing. Wanted to add my daughter to your list. Rollins college. In winter park, fl (near orlando) Freshman move in date August 16. </p>

<p>I am so glad to see that I am not the only one with the mixed emotions…I am so happy and excited for her, yet everyone it hits me that she won’t Abe around all the time very soon.</p>

<p>We are driving from Wisconsin so are leaving a week from Sunday. It is so hard to believe she will be sleeping in her dorm 2 weeks from tonight!</p>

<p>We have purchased so little…I am getting worried. Her roommate is from Florida so she has offered to bring the microwave and refrigerator, which is great. She still doesn’t have a comforter, beddings or mattress pad and she is very picky. But we are running out of places to look. Any advice? Pretty much all she has is her clothes from home…but at least finally ordered the things she needs for the dance team (she got the list before school ended!). I have been nagging her to get laundry things, etc. I promised myself I would let her be in control of this…we still have a week. Nothing to worry about, right.</p>

<p>PN-shoes appear to be his vice. I could care less about shoes, so it is his little quirk. Right now they are mainly Sperry, Vans, Toms, etc but he will quickly embrace custom Italian-leather loafers when given the finances to do so.</p>

<p>I’m trying to talk D out of packing ALL of her footwear which includes 7 pairs of boots. It’s going to cost us a fortune in checked luggage and shipping costs if she’s allowed to take everything she thinks she needs.</p>
