Parents, students left out as UF gets more selective

University of Florida becomes more selective; parents, students left outside looking in -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

This isn't news to anyone here, but it's always interesting to see a story about it, especially when it's the front page headline for today in the newspaper.

How sad. I'm turning into SSobick posting this story here (that's usually his job), and I don't even go to UF.

I read that this morning. It is so sad that the top students, many of whom worked their butts off in high school, cannot get into UF. Last year my friends son had a 1340/1600 SAT, 4.2 GPA and was ranked about 68 (class size of 800) and was rejected from UF. He is at FSU Honors Program now. Kids from South Florida, where there are an overabundance of academically talented applicants, are at a real disadvantage.

Due to UF becoming so selective, I think that FSU and UCF will become better schools, because kids with high GPA/SAT are be rejected and may go the the other Florida schools causing them to become better.
