It’s a little early but regards to planning there apperars to be a football game on Sept 1st over Parent’s weekend (South Carolina State). I’m assuming that our new 4 dig will not be released until after the football game which will shorten the time they’ll be away from the academy that weekend. Is this assumption correct??

is it a home game? I think that would be a great thing to go see!

According to the 2007 Football Prospectus - it's a home game.
It appears that the non-conference games Army (Nov 3), Navy(away) and ND(away) are all set and the Mountain West conference schedule will be finalized by early April.

Parent's Weekend football game is mandatory for cadets - 4digs cannot sit with parents and must wait until AFTER alma mater sung following game.

Even if AFA is winning or losing by 50 points, no cadet can leave stadium early.

Enjoy the march on, and flyover. Even if you are use to Big 10, SEC, PAC 10, etc football, a home AFA game is unique.

SC State Marching band alone will be worth the admission price.

That sounds great. Probably a very popular event. Do we have to consider buying tickets early? Is the stadium likely to sell out or is there ample room for all those parents/family etc....

You might want to consider buying tickets early...while the stadium rarely sells out, it does get close for games against big times like Notre Dame...so it's not HUGE. While SCS is not one of those teams, the factor of 1-4 family members per cadet being on campus during a football game weekend should bring a lot more tickets in...

Here's the link for online ticket sales.

It looks like individual game tickets to the general public won't begin until mid to late May. Of course, you could always just buy season tickets right away and be done with it!

Note: consider booking your hotel and football tickets EARLY. Hotel rooms will sell out. We actually booked our reservation LAST year for parents weekend this year -- The Academy Hotel encouraged it when we checked in! Obviously, I'm speaking to appointees and thier families here. We didn't have a football game last year (first time in awhile that that happened) but I expect it will be crowded. All parents will likely go. Should be a madhouse!

Regarding hotel reservations - yes they get tight for Parent's Weekend. But I might also suggest checking out a hotel in Denver. Plus there is the unspoken "50 mile" rule where 4 digs could get out of their uniforms. Those cadets that live close enough to go home have a great deal - there is something to be said about geting completely away from the Springs for a part, if not most of Parent's weekend.

Yup, I went up to Denver during Parent's weekend, got some Cheesecake factory (favorite dessert in the world!) and relaxed. Felt VERY strange to sit in front of a TV in PJ's on a Saturday/Sunday morning after BCT.

The new schedule of events for Parents Weekend has been posted on the USAFA website.

It looks like the tickets for the football game will go on sale April 5th.

According to the schedule, the cadets can leave with parents Friday night after squadron open house, but have to report back for formation before the football game on Saturday. Then they will be released for the rest of the weekend after the game.

Thanks for sharing Stealth.

about the "50 mile" rule, just be careful. technically, you cannot change out of uniform period, so if certain people catch you, you can get in trouble. its a risk up to you. but espeically don't do it in the springs... you will get cuaght. plus, two friends and i recieved a free meal once because we were in uniform. some random person bought our meal without telling us.
