parents won't let me take lots of hard classes

I'm in Algebra 2 and I am signed up for Math Analysis(Trig&Pre-Calc) next year but I really want to take Trig over the summer so that I can go into Pre-Calc Honors next year. My parents will let me take Trig over the summer but they won't let me take Pre-Cac Honors unless I change one of my honors/AP classes next year to a regular class.

This is my planned schedule for Junior year:
APUSH
Am Lit Honors
Physics Honors
Math Analysis
Spanish 3
AVID 11

I really want to take Pre-Calc H instead of Math Anal, but my parents won't let me because they think that "3 advanced classes is enough for one year"... what should I do?

…“Math Anal…”

lol sorry it’s the nickname for Math Analysis… pronounced like how you would say canal, with a long ‘a’ P:

lol @ your parents thinking that schedule is hard

Hard?
Cmmon that’s as easy as it gets.
Check out my last year classes (Jr) - even then it wasn’t really hard.

IB Math SL
IB Biology HL
IB TOK
IB European History HL
IB English HL
IB French 6
IB Computer Science SL
Concert Orchestra

And so this becomes yet another d̶i̶c̶k̶ schedule measuring contest.

Math Anal is just Algebra 2 all over again… Yes I am taking Math Anal

That cannot be healthy.

It really is not healthy for my GPA. My teacher is such a terrible teacher. She takes off points for everything on tests. I mean if she asks for the y intercept, I answer with (0,3), which is a coordinate and the right coordinate, she takes off points for not just answering with a 3… Stupid stuff like that ****es me off.

Hahaha…your parents think that is too hard…hahaha. Show them like 1 thread on CC, lol.

And yeah, math is not a sex toy.

i had the same issue with my parents! my siblings both were kind of underachievers in high school and both got bad grades, but i get straight A’s in advanced classes. it took a bit to convince them that i could handle two AP’s this year (i’m a sophomore.) since i got A’s in them, they trust me now, so they’re letting me take 5 AP’s, another college credit course, and math analysis (my school requires taking it after Algebra 2/Trig and before AP Calc D: ). So I guess maybe if you just prove to them that you can definitely handle it they might let you take more? Have you gotten good grades in Algebra 2?

Yeah well I think that classes at my school might be above average in hardness because the high school is in an advanced district… it’s a good school, not extremely hard I think, but it’s generally a challenge to take more than 2-3 AP’s.

In Alg2 I got an A the first semester and I was fine but this semester I’ve been fluctuating between a D and C because (1) I failed one out of two quizzes she gave us, worth 20 percent of our grade, and (2) I got sick and had to make up hella work that she still hasn’t graded/put in the gradebook yet because she’s lazy… it’s been weeks -__- I swear, my teacher is evil… I think she did it so that I would get a D on my progress report because she hates students.

Other than that, I’ve been improving a lot in all of my classes and I got wayy better grades than freshman year. My parents were astonished when I got an A in Chem Honors… I’m smart but I just haven’t cared about classes till this year, and I know that I have a lot of potential.

haha same goes for my school. my school and the one thats closest near us are generally considered the two advanced school in the district. not counting the IB school. we always have the most kids at AP tests. (like for art history my school had 22, and the closest to us was 12.)

anyways, though. maybe thats why they’re kind of adverse to the idea of you taking more advanced classes in that particular subject because you haven’t done so great this semester. i mean, it really sucks what happened to you, but most teachers, especially AP and advanced teachers, aren’t really accommodating either when a situation like that happens. my AP Euro teacher, for example, always give tests with 15 extra credit questions on it. but if you miss the day we take the test, you don’t get those extra credit questions AND you get a harder version of the test. the APUSH teacher also makes all of his make up tests not be mc, but rather straight essay tests.

if the only problem you have is your teacher not putting your grades in the gradebook and when she does finally do it you have an A/B, i don’t think you’ll have issues with taking the harder class and you should tell you parents that since you’ve proved yourself in that class, you should be able to do it. but if she puts the grades in and you still have a C/D, maybe you might want to rethink taking the pre-calc honors next year. but i really can’t say for sure, because i don’t know how hard pre-calc honors really is because my school doesn’t offer it.

i don’t know… that’s just my opinion. :)

Multi Variable Calc
AP Bio (already took ap chem and ap phys so no other option -____-)
AP Env Science
AP Lit
AP Stats
APUSH

Differential Eqns, Intro to Quantum Mechanics and Organic Chemistry at a local university.

Self-Studying Human Geo, Psychology, World Hist.,Comp. Gov (just to get 20 ap exams lawl)

my rents are letting me do all this lol

^Crazy ■■■■ or just a lying piece of …

I know, some people have no shame.

I am not lying. I have credentials to prove it; USAMO, US Physics Camp and USNCO Semi Finalist, Siemens Semi-Finalist and a full time research intern at Fermi Lab working with Astro Physicists. Is that enough for you, or do you want more for me to prove it? :D

No one cares about your schedule. This isn’t a d̶i̶c̶k̶ schedule measuring contest, the OP was asking for help. Why do so many people feel the need to respond “lol, my schedule is so much harder, because I’m so smart”? Honestly, guys, it’s a really stupid thing to brag about.

OP: How have your grades in previous advanced classes been? Can you finish off this year with good grades to prove to your parents you can handle that schedule next year?

^ BillyMc’s smart. :)
