I have been driving in NYC from months now. Not to be rude, but I don't need a lecture on the traffic there.

i don't understand you guys...If he wants to bring a car, he's going to bring it anyway...let alone saying 3,000,000 times that the traffic is impractical...have you ever driven in new york city? it really isn't that bad if you know what you're doing, and where you're going, and how to drive. considering the fact that he has, I think he realizes this.

Soulofheaven8 said, "I know someone who commutes from Westchester. He parks his car in a nearby municipal parking lot, and I think he pays around $300 per month."

I am the "someone". I have a parking garage a block and a half away from one of the entrances to campus, at West 120th Street and Claremont Avenue, located below the Riverside Church. I pay $320/month (including tax) for access to the garage from 6 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Friday. I believe they have 24/7 parking available for around $390 per month, with tax, although I am not positive.

I usually drive a Toyota Camry but sometimes drive my BMW 325is, weather permitting. There are a lot of expensive cars in the garage, in addition to the fact that it is obviously indoors, so keeping a nice car there wouldn't be a problem. I only wind up driving a few blocks within the city - after I get off the Henry Hudson Parkway at 125th and Riverside, I make a left toward Broadway, travel from 125th/Broadway to 120th/Broadway, make another right, and the garage is a block away. I have only driven as far downtown as 85th street (East 85th, near Madison Avenue), and the traffic hasn't been too bad, depending on the time of day, of course. I definitely wouldn't recommend going anywhere within the city in the middle of the day. My biggest concern regarding driving my BMW is actually just watching out for potholes - they can get pretty huge and there are a lot of them after a while, during the winter.

Overall, I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to keep a car at that garage, assuming the money wouldn't be a problem, but it doesn't seem like it would be. And, by the way, that pic of the Gemballa Turbo is now my desktop background :-D.

lol... good, thats an awesome car :)

My parents live in westchester, so if I were to park a car there, I would leave it in their garage. If you think your bimmer has issues with potholes, you should see how low my car. I just have to avoid them as best as I can.

On another note, thank you for providing this information to me, it was very helpfull.

No problem. Regarding the potholes, I was actually just referring to the fact that I have expensive rims and low-profile tires... I'm waiting to get new suspension components until after the winter passes - right now, I basically have a 4x4 suspension - I could probably pass over small animals without knowing it, lol.

hehe Frank, looks like you might have a commuting partner for next year.
