I was told at highlander day this year that this is the first year at UCR that freshman will not be allowed parking permits for their cars. This is a let down since I was gonna bring my car due to my proximity to the school and other personal destinations I would need to go to frequently. However, I have my motorcycle license as well as a motorcycle and was wondering if anyone knew anything regarding first years getting a motorcycle parking permit? TIA!
I believe the same restriction applies for motorcycles. They won’t be allowing freshmans who dorm get ANY parking permits, which means we’re literally stuck taking one of UCR’s alternative transportation, or befriending older ppl that have cars and hangout with them. I did hear there was street parking available, but not really down to take that risk because Riverside can get sketchy at night.
It really sucks, I’ve also been planning to bring my car for work related and personal reasons. I think they’re allowing a very few exceptions, but those haven’t been stated yet. UCR students have really been complaining about the lack of spaces in their lots, so I’m guessing that’s why they won’t allow us to get parking permits if we dorm. They even state on their twitter that as of now, parking permits for freshmans won’t be considered unless unless we are commuters.
I’ve been looking into Zipcar b/c UCR has that on one of their alternative transportations, but I’m not exactly sure how that works.
Yeah it really sucks, but you can’t even by motorcycle permits online. You need to go to the parking services offices and it’s $280 a quarter. I’ve already ruled out the possibility of bringing my car, but I’m still gonna go into the office to see if they’ll let me buy a motorcycle permit.
