Parking

It is just me or is parking on campus a nightmare, regardless of the school?
Seems like they WANT to give out parking tickets.

Needless to say, its a game of cat + mouse.
Though good thing I'm living offcampus next semester. whew.

Soo How is parking at YOUR school?

It’s definitely a nightmare at my school. I’ve been checking the website like crazy to see when parking permits go on sale so I can avoid the nightmare.

At my CC, they seriously did not have enough parking… you could drive around for an hour and not find a spot and they wait for you to park somewhere illegally so they can give you a ticket.

At my previous school parking wasn’t a problem and was easy and there was always space.

At my new school I’ve heard parking is horrible and when I visited during the week during the summer there were hardly any parking spots, so I’ll be taking the bus/mooching rides.

There’s a huge lot right in front of the freshman building so i’m hoping I can leave my car there for the most part. I heard the campus police are a little crazy but so long as i’m not driving it around too much and parking in the same place I think it’ll work out.

I’ve actually never heard of any campus police problems at my CC, but I wouldn’t take any chances. Parking was a nightmare last semester for a long time because they were still working on redoing the parking lots in front of some of the main buildings. We had to park soooo far away for the first half of the semester. Then, most days I would still have to come in really early to find a good space. One day I had to run all the way across campus to my class in 17 degree cold, with frost and snow still on the ground :(

good thing I am not taking my car to college thank god for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority, Riverside Transit Agency , and Metrolink

I have problems finding somewhere to lock my bike.
Does that count? :D

The lot with the campus police building will always have the most open spots.

it’s pretty bad at my school too

Parking is a masive nightmare for me, I drive a lifted truck and can’t fit in these liberal parking garages these days ***!!! Its like they are made for strictly cars the bottom out when you hit a speed bump over 10mph. I never thought the height of a parking structure would affect which college I choose, LOL.

^ yeah it must get annoying when parking garages can’t accommodate your obnoxious, noisy, oversize vehicle

Expensive!

For freshmen, $300/year. Sophomores, $200. And juniors/seniors, $100.

The campus police at my school practically hide in bushes and pop out at random times to ticket. It’s awful.

There is like one garage that allows overnight parking. It’s like $650 for the whole year. The surface spots are significantly cheaper, $125 or so for the year, but you can’t park there overnight. It’s for commuters only, and the spots are still very limited.

Garage spots are given out via a lottery and are ridiculously limited. But of course only like 50% of Freshman and 10% of So/Jr/Sr even live on campus. Most off-campus private dorms offer some pay-for-parking, and apartments of course have their own parking.

I’m suddenly very glad that I don’t go to a school with a parking garage.

Parking at my school isn’t too bad. You can usually find a spot. It’s about $95 per semester to get a permit.

how much $$ is a parking ticket at everyone’s schools?

mines $10 / day. On bad days (inclement weather, etc). I just treat is as daily parking. MUCH cheaper than new york LOL.

$100 for the year. (I think…maybe it’s 100 for the semester).

It was $170 for the year. My parking lot is 1.2 miles away from my dorm. ■■■. Needless to say, I only use it when I can’t use the bus to go into town or to go home. It’s not worth it for classes.

They should invest more money in parking instead of renovating/building some useless/underused facilities. By making it easier for students do drive and have a car, the Univs. also could foster mobility, increase student access to cheaper groceries and stores (= going Wal Mart), and even build, say, a satellite group of halls on unexpensive land on the 'burbs if students can easily park and drive to/from main campus.
