I've read in a bunch of places that a significant amount of USC students go home on the weekend, and that a car is a huge benefit... what does this mean for out-of-state students? What is the social life like on campus on weekends?

Yeah, campus is somewhat deserted over the weekend but that doesn't mean that there is no one here. Many people are here and they find some cool things to do. Most people have friends who have cars, so they tend to ask for rides around town on weekends.

Is parking horrible? I remember parking at USC for the Revlon Walk, and it took us about an hour before we could get out.

Some of the prof's were telling me parking is awful! First off, there isn't much of it, and it costs a crap load of money for a parking pass

the tourguide told me parking is guaranteed for freshmen.. but that could have been a lie?
anyway- it doesn't matter for me. i only get to bring a bike to college... therefore... if i know you next year... and you bring a car... i am SO bumming a ride off of you! : )

I'm bringing a bike too lol! I think that's true for freshmen... but nevertheless, it still costs extra money!

sweeeet. bffl. (bike friends for life!)
i'm such a loser... i'm sorry... haha

yep, atleast you know it!

nah, lol, believe me, before I had a car, I rode my bike everywhere, and I had some pretty awful experiences (e.g. when all three of my bikes had flats, so I had to use my sisters, which was bright pink... EMBARRASING!) I'm such a loser

Yeah, parking is definitely bad. Supposedly when they release annual parking permits, then they usually sell out within minutes!

Having a bike is great, just make sure you buy a good lock.

Parking is bad at pretty much any college. So get used to it.

Aww man. Guess I have to take the bus to USC then.

Just kidding. I only live 20 minutes away, so I'll get to school early and hog a parking space. Muahahaha...

I don't know how commuters cope. I mean really, it takes away from the college experience.

agreed. You're missing out.

i would say a significant portion of students do go home some even fly home on the weekends. esp if they don't have class on friday

jennyz, I'd definitely have to disagree with you on that one. I live about 30 minutes away from campus and rarely go home. None of my close friends go home on the weekends either.

About parking...to get a spot ON CAMPUS, it is a bit more difficult, but as a freshman, I was able to get a spot in PSB first semester and PSX this semester. The Parking Center almost always has passes available, so finding a place to park your car isn't terrible at all at USC. I have friends at UCLA who can't get parking till their junior year, MAYBE sophomore year if they're lucky.

That's gotta be expensive!!! ;)

What are you studying at USC, redski?

wow! flying home on the weekends, that's crazy, unless you've got a family member in the airline industry...
