Partners that don't do work in an extracurricular setting

Suppose you have a good friend that you're working with for an (academic) extracurricular activity. This friend doesn't do any of the work he's supposed to do and no matter how hard you try to get him to work, he won't do what you ask him to do. Yet he happens to be pretty smart and a good friend, nonetheless.
You really want to do well in this event, but your partner is probably going to hold you back. What do you do?

I don’t have friends

@DigitalKing‌ I know exactly how you feel! I’m in this class where we do monthly modules which are basically equivalent to ginormous unit tests. We do then in groups, and I managed to get a pretty solid group. Only problem, one of my friends in the group is the laziest, most stubborn kid ever. The other 2 kids and I made Slacker (his name for the sake of this post) agree, in video, to do the section of the module assigned ASAP. We gave him a bit of motivation, offers to do HW and even pay for a few lunches, and that finally got him going.

Find something to use as motivation to get your partner going. If you can’t do that, well, say sayonara to el amigo.

I dont have friends

Do the work for him and complain passive-aggressively for a week or so. I’m not very proactive.
