What is the party scene like at rice? Is it intense and alot of fun, or is it hard to find stuff going on during the week? Please any information will help.

From my tour guide, he said that each residential college has its own parties and stuff. Im not sure if they allow alcohol in these "residential college get to togethers" but from what i hear the RUPD (Rice Police) are pretty lax on alcohol as long as your party doesnt have overly , stumbling while drinking people. So yes, you can find yourself a mini -party in someones room at times. If you haven't read what student's say about Rice... heres a little sample..

RICE UNIVERSITY
"I live in the fourth biggest city in the country, yet I can go weeks without leaving campus. Even when I do leave, it takes 30 minutes to go get gas, and an hour to move a mile on the 45 or the 59. I was either a dork in high school and am still a dork, or I was a dork in high school and now i pretend to be cool. If asked where I'm from, I respond with my college and not my hometown. To relieve stress I run around campus naked twice a month. If I go to the library at midnight, there's a good chance I might not be able to find a free computer, in which case I can always just go to the pub. The pub is heaven on earth. I worship the baseball team, play drinking games in class, and firmly believe that Martel is not a college. I was a pre-med until orgo made me its two semester *****, now i'm an academ. Beer bike is the biggest event of the year, yet 90% of people pass out before the races even begin. I think it's cool to cuss at the top of my lungs and call it a cheer. Even drunk or stoned, I'm still smarter than you.
I am an Owl."

According to my kids, lots of stuff going on during the week. Be prepared to be very, very, very busy! (We've found that kids at Rice tend to do lots of things; play sports, study hard, volunteer or work, hang out and party.) maybe, not sleep enough!

Rice rarely/never has a shortage of activities! Like anxiousmom said, you'll be as busy as you want.

how about the alcohol-related parties?
how often are those?

You can find 'em whenever you want. No one I know has ever had trouble finding mischief, no matter what night of the week it is.

Also, if you don't drink (like me), you can still go to parties because no one ever pressures you to drink.

Being a wet campus there's always alcohol around. I was at a party last weekend and at no point did I feel pressured to drink.

^I'm guessing your one of the ones that got in trouble for drinking during O-Week , which is supposed to be mainly dry..

More likely efs was talking about Dis-O, which is when campus goes wet again. Don't be so harsh! By the way, O-Week isn't supposed to be mainly dry, but rather completely dry. We take it very seriously.

Yeah, the advisors for O-Week aren't even allowed to drink OFF campus.

iambored10 I did not drink get Dis-O let alone during during O-Week. I don't drink! I was just referencing that Rice is generally a wet campus.

Don't Mess With Texas...

haha gotta admit martel threw a decent party..i heard last year it wasnt as good. took some time for the party to get started though

there's gonna be a lottt more parties comin too:)

-

you will def find parties on campus if you look hard enough (some colleges have more partier reputations than others, and some floors more so than other floors, etc). theres always something going on. and again even if you go to a party you def will not feel pressured to drink. theres plenty of stuff going on, non-drinking wise, as well. just find your niche and you'll be fine

rice is DEFINITELY a work hard play hard school no doubt about it. i'm surrounded by absolutely brilliantly smart kids who study hard and work a lot but know how to have a good time and party hard too; these kids have a great balance of academics and fun
