Party school?

high schoolish/college freshman quote?

go look at the corporate world and see how many people go for drinks for happy hour or bars after work. you guys are just too young and prude to understand that. you guys just have tainted views of drinking/partying probably due to your parents being so sensitive and over-protective of you.

and partying every weekend will not necessarily hurt your gpa. you just need to be on top of things. for example, a lot of my friends will study all day friday, and party from like 11pm til 4am.. wake up at 11 or noon and study all day saturday. what's wrong with that? all i know is that it beats playing super smash bros in your dorm rooms. and believe it or not, you meet TONS of people at parties, and yes.. you remember them or they remember you.

the_aspirant, for the record, I've been to plenty of parties... and I know how to have a good time. I've also seen people let it get out of hand and totally screw their GPAs. This is not being "uptight"... it's using common sense. Your comments are highschoolish... if partying is that high on your list of priorities, you should have picked a real party school. I have plenty of friends who took that path and make good grades... it's just hard to party hard and make good grades at UM. However, you seemed destined to ignore good advice.

haha destined to ignore good advice? 'be disciplined and don't get carried away with it'? i never ignored that. i just replied back in response to your insult against me.

also, i'm assuming you're a rising sophomore. you've had one year of college under your belt and you think you know everything.. haha. kids these days..

and in response to:

"..you should have picked a real party school."

i actually transferred out to a different school because i didn't like the huge party/state school atmosphere. although michigan isn't really considered one of the craziest party schools, it's up there.

so i guess you don't know me at all. the end.

I partied every Friday and Saturday (sometimes Thursdays, although tough with that 8:30 AM friday class) and maintained a very high GPA. It's all about time management. Just work your ass off during the week and have fun on the weekends.

Work hard, party hard.

There is nothing wrong with social parties (i.e. a birthday party/celebration...) where there are good food and intelligent conversations, but college parties are all about getting wasted and hooking up--there is nothing adequate about this. If you want to reduce your stress and meet people, why not practice a sport or go somewhere decent(like an event)? Chances are the drunken people you meet at these hardcore parties are not worth getting to know in the first place, not to mention that severe hangover the next day.

I partied every friday and saturday night last semester, sometimes Thursdays, pretty good GPA. I had 18 credits as well, so to kind of settle myself, I almost never did work on Fridays after class and never on Saturday. Of course, I never really had any work other than weekly homeworks due on Thursday or Sunday night, and had only two papers for the entire semester, so it wasn't too bad.

It's about a balance...get your stuff done and enjoy yourself. I simply can't believe that someone would need to do work almost every weekend night. I treat college like a job (albeit salaried). You have your time in class, and the other weekday time you should try to study. Stay on top of things and it all works out.

It varies from person to person. I know that if I partied every friday and saturday night I'd end up with a 3.0. I could party once in a while but I just find them too damn boring!!

" Chances are the drunken people you meet at these hardcore parties are not worth getting to know in the first place"

Yes, I guess getting to know Ted Kennedy while he was at H would have been a waste of time. Even Bill Gates loved to party. Many of these people are probably more interesting than you. Dweebs are a dime a dozen.

Yes, because there's no way they could make their own opinions.

I partied Wednesdays - Saturdays throughout freshman year and I pulled off a 3.9. Get over your old fashioned stereotypes about parties.

What is your major?

What is your definition of partying?

kinch, most students can't get a 3.9 studying 24/7 stone cold sober. You came into UM with an IB curriculum and a very high SAT score. You were able to do well with a heavy partying load. It is misleading to imply that most people can do what you did... they can't... you are an exception and people should not think they can replicate your accomplishments.

Given the amount of partying you did, I'm sure you know some people you partied with who couldn't keep their grades up to a level they were capable of... I sure did. I even know a couple of people with stats like yours or better who got carried away with their newfound freedoms and their grades suffered. For the overwhelming majority of people who like to party, they should limit their partying to weekends and, around finals and mid-terms, stay "clean and sober." And, frankly, some people can't even handle this type of party load.

"Dweebs are a dime a dozen."

Hey, I take offense at that! I'm very proud of the dork I am, thankyouverymuch.

My grades suffered frosh year. maybe it was because of my courseload, or it was b/c i partied way too much. I was going out 3-5 nights a week, and if you know me, I'm pretty hardcore about it. The biggest thing I would stay away from is day drinking. Study by day, party by night. When you start drinking at noon, the rest of your day goes to waste. The only exceptions are football saturdays, last days of semesters, welcome week, and St. Patty's Day.

Head to head in basketball, Michigan and MSU were 1-1.
