Partying

Hey all.. I was accepted for clas of 2010 and I heard some mean rumors about the lack of a U of C party/social scene. True?

not true, at least according t o my friend. he sometimes attends a few frat parties, and parties in general are existant here and there.

if you have livejournal... just go ask this question on the uchicago community. haha. you'll be fine.

Haha, I love that half the threads here are about UofC stereotypes... partying, how hot everyone is, people being complete supernerds...

I think there's some type of party scene at every school.

of course there is. it's a part of college for somebody everywhere... certain places are just more... flamboyant?

everything i've heard says it's incredibly easy to have fun without traditional college "partying" at U of C, and that's why i like it.

okay, yeah, think about my instate choices--MSU, U of M... xD

If by flamboyant you mean everyone gets drunk... Heh.

Yeah, I think there will be so many creative (probably nerdy) ways to have fun at UofC and I'm totally looking forward to it.

pssst... model UN... eeeeverybody's doing it...

Yeah, I've heard about it, but don't actually know that much... from what I do know it sounds interesting, so I'll check it out.

Psi Upsilon has parties every Saturday night at 9:37. . .

I am not advocating them, though, being fairly conservative myself.

And, of course, there is the Reg, which probably provides to most social fun. :)

im kind of sick of this topic....

I've never liked partying - the drinking, bad, pounding music, "dancing" (aka jumping up and down and randomly gyrating limbs) - it's repulsive. What's so appealing about it? Maybe it's just me...

I'm not a partyer either. I don't think I've gone to a typical 'party' in all of high school. And by 'party', I mean what Dave just described. I'd rather just hang out with friends.

As I have answered many many times before.....if you want it you can find it. In fact...just to put an end to this topic now I think I'm going to link to an earlier post I made.

Here it is. Go. Read. It should answer all of your questions.

It's OK, Yourself; I've never understood this partying lark, either. Twenty-four libraries were invented for the likes of us.

I'll be joining you guys at the library....

library partier Reading parties anyone?

Sign me up. :)

Actually, a fun "party" is swing dancing on Friday nights from 9:00 p.m.-midnight at Ida Noyes. It is known as Java Jive, as it started in the Reynolds Club C-Shop (though it now carries the name of a bagel shop). The C-Shop serves mainly coffee, etc, hence, that is where the "Java" part comes from. Basically, it is 50-100 people or so, all swing dancing. I have been going for the past few months, and I have never had so much fun in my life.

I will be going tonight, in fact, with a friend of mine (a former student himself from the U. of C.).

Well I don't know how to swing dance, but I'd be willing to learn.

wow katharos. u must live and breathe u of c! im so jealous! any tips for intensive language study this summer?

haha... i'm not a huge partier either... the question was asked because when i told someone i was accepted the response was, "U of C is where fun goes to die." kinda scared me.
