Meeting all these introverts next fall will be extremely interesting. Hermits unite!

Oh eyah Ahsley, but those are logos the same Uchi students produce and print on t-shirts. Its sarcasm, making fun of the 'reputation' that Uchi has gained , as in being nerdy and stuff. But hey, that's just reputation, not everyone is like that.

BTW, there is one that goes ' University of Chicago: where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA´ - nice sexual connotation

LOL vanessa. i never noticed the sexual connotation of that logo.

omg how exciting! im not much of a partier either- i 've NEVER gone to any parties in high school (except the big dance "parties" like homecoming and fine arts banquet)

ahaha yay for library parties! yay for introverts!

Well, generally "parties" as you described them...have replaced the typical courtship period between males and females, i.e. they are conducive towards getting laid. So, I hope there is a party scene, or at the very least, a party every....2 months or so for my own sanity's sake.

oh hollyspirit! I'll second that!

Don't worry holyspirit, I'm brining the partying scene with me to U of C.

Katharos, the swing dancing sounds like so much fun. I wish the 20-21 overnight at U of C was on a Friday night, because I'd love to check that out. I'll actually be there for a couple days afterward, taking to train out to the suburbs to stay with relatives, but I doubt my mom would like picking me up from the train station on Friday at 1 AM...

bling, bling

1AM?? Why do things tend to end up soo early in the states? I get out of my house at 11, and the clubs and discos back here open like at 12! And yup! they clos at 7am!

you get some hot ass out of it. that's what's so appealing. just got back from a party w/ ingram hill & youngbloodz... and some gorgeous butts

studio27, your posts still do not show up!!!

Legal curfew in my city is something like 10:30 or 11 pm for teenagers, so that tends to have an impact. As well, not very many things are all-ages, so it's moot.

yea we have from 12-5am if you are under 18 you can't be driving...its a bs law though...i heard chicago has some pretty nice bars and clubs

I think the "where fun comes to die" slogan translates into "where there isn't that much alcohol." But I mean, come on, really, it's college. It's Chicago. If you want party you can find party.

(Although my friend, who's a first-year at Chicago, says that the kids tend to quote Shakespeare when they're drunk.)

Reading is sexy-

Yep, I went swing dancing with my friend last night, and we had quite a lot of fun, although we are still beginners (but we are taking the Beginning Swing lessons on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. to improve that).

You all must go to Java Jive when you are students here, especially if you are a guy; there is always a lack of them, and the girls would love to dance with you.

And a very intellectual group of imbibers they must be. Good grief, that puts a whole new spin on the idea of alcoholic orgies at Chicago...

Katharos, that sounds so awesome! Do you by any chance know if there are any salsa/latin clubs around? :D Is there any age limit on the clubs, by the way? In my area it used to be 18, but they just raised the club age to 19 TT&TT

Actually you couldn't be more wrong. People can debate the party scene all they want, but there is one thing that is for sure.... the U of C is a campus pretty much awash in alcohol. We have very lax alcohol policies here in the dorms...

There are no salsa or Latin dance clubs around here, as far as my knowledge goes. But, there are lessons at Ida Noyes. Go to the UChicago web site and do a search for them. There is a site (I actually visited it a few days ago), as well as the swing dance web site, if you want to check. The U. of C. also offers swing, lindy, balboa, and waltz lessons at Ida (for a small fee: $2.00/class with a UCID), as well as free ballet and modern dance lessons in the basement of Ida. The arts are quite prevalent here, which I like, as I once (I am embarrassed to admit) wanted to be a ballet dancer; now I am more of an intellectual, but I still dance for fun on the side.

Haha, don't be embarassed! I took ballet for six years and then gave it up when I realized I didn't want to puruse it professionally. It took up way too much of my life and didn't leave much room for anything else.

And WOW, $2.00 per lesson with an ID? That's absolutely nothing for dance lessons! I'll definitely wait for college to take lessons, then. Oh, college. :D
