Pass/Fail Classes..GPA?

How do they affect your GPA?

nil effect

i was told that passing a class does not affect your gpa but in medical school admissions, a fail counts as a 0 towards your gpa and it averages out to make your gpa lower by however many units it was

^^not sure if thats true about med school but it is true for law school

yeah, the thing about p/np is that for law schools and med schools, all P’s are regarded as C’s and all NP’s are F’s when they calculate your gpa.

They have no effect (with the above exceptions) – you simply get the credit, granted that you pass.

What about courses that are only P/NP but are also major prerequisites? Are they factored into your overall GPA at all? For example, BioE 24 and BioE 25 are both major prerequisites for bioengineering. So does that mean a premed in bioengineering gets screwed over by this?

For some reason, I find this hard to believe. ie a Pass is factored as a C in your Med School BCMP GPA. If you have a link or some more details, please do share.

ah, you’re right, i was just parroting something i’ve heard on these forums. here some information from erc college at ucsd:
