Past Experience with the UC TAG (miscommunication, technical issues, etc)

I’m applying for UCI TAG for fall 2015.
Does anyone mind sharing their past trouble difficulties with the UC TAG, and how you overcome it?
Thank you.

I’ve had no issues for a couple of reasons.

First, I read this two or three times http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/tag-matrix.pdf . I noticed some schools (like UCSB) have specific math and english timeline requirements.

Then I decided my top two TAG schools, and read everything on their website about the program and requirements at the specific campuses.

After deciding, I filled out this https://uctap.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/index.cfm and went through the steps.

Hope that helps!

@luckie1367 Thanks for your input.

Is it necessary to follow up with the UC counselor when they have the chance to visit my CC sometimes in April?
I’m paranoid because of the past cases that rarely happen, but they did.
where counselors deny the TAG applicant by mistake, so the applicant had to put extra effort to appeal
In 2013, and 2014 UC transfer thread

I never met with a counselor to go over mine.

I’m not sure what your last 2 lines mean.

The link is aboutt the last 2 lines
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1467102-uci-transfer-2013-decisions-p119.html

like the problems with user clamfest and user Eltwong.

Just read through that thread, and here are my thoughts:

First, it seems like one of the posters was not in good standing at their previous UC, which will disqualify an applicant from TAG and transferring to another UC

Another was that they may have been past the unit cap, which will also disqualify an applicant from TAG.

oh right, he did come from a University before attending the community college.

I agree with @luckie1367‌. The key is to read the TAG agreement carefully, both on the UC site and the matrix. It’s the ones that switch up the rules that are the killer. Also, for my money do whatever it says in the rules, even if a uc counselor tells you otherwise: case in point, UC Davis’ vague mention on website that the “full term last year” requirement can be modified at their discretion. A student was told by a UC TAG advisor that it was fine to go part-time, he applied and was denied.

BYW, most TAGs cannot be appealed. Decision is final.

@Tristana where are you thinking of TAGing? Maybe we can help your specific situation.

I TAG’ed UCI this year as Biological Sciences major.

Stats? # of pre reqs completed/in progress? Are you a CC only student? Are there any other things that might affect your TAG?

GPA: 3.67
Prereq: completed.
yes, I’ve only attended GWC since high school.

Nothing I can think of that can affect my TAG since my gpa was 3.4+ by summer of 2014 as stated in the TAG condition

Do you meet all of these from the UCI TAG website?

Are you eligible for TAG?

REPOST

On a separate, but related note, UCI is doing a great job right now against Louisville in March Madness. I’m actually really impressed!

yeah, the last prereq I had to complete, which was ochem 2, was finished in Fall 14.
I finished calc. 1& 2 in my first year (2012), along with English 1 and 2.
and took stats in Summer 2014.

Then you’re fine! Why so worried?

I’m rooting for UCI!

When do decisions come out?

@luckie1367 thanks for your help
I’ve been consumed by all of these posts, and the negative thoughts got to me

addition to that was the rejection by UCSB lol
