Pathetic GPA. Which Colleges Would Accept Me For Accounting?

Some background info about me...

I have 3.4 cummulative. 4.0 in major. My major is in accounting. I left UCLA 15 years ago under academic probation as a senior. Have no desire to return to finish my music degree. I am taking pre-reqs at my local community college in the San Francisco area.

I'm 40 and am too old to go for the BiG 4 firms. I want to work in government or nonprofit (I have extensive work experience in these sectors). IRS agent looks appealing. I don't care about making 6 figures. What is more important to me is making a comfortable salary, job stability, good benefits, and work/life/family balance.

Prestige of the school is moot at this point especially with my gpa. So Haas School of Business and USC is out of my league. I want to go to a AACSB accredited school with a reputable accounting program that will prepare me for the CPA exam. I also dont want to spend an arm and a leg as I have a family to support and a mortgage to pay.

Below is my prospective list of schools. Which schools would I be able to get into considering my gpa and background? Would it matter to employers if I went to a junk school?

SDSU

SJSU

SFSU

CSUF

UCR

Sac State

Cal Poly SLO

No comment on which school you can get in, you can check each school’s website for transfer students profile for an idea.

Have a family AND a mortgage, want to work for government, I wouldn’t go to the schools out of bay area if I were you. SJSU has a good acct program. Franchise Tax Board hires quite some graduates there, IRS also recruit there. Also look into SFSU.
