Moms with Kids on Wait Lists:

Please don't email me asking me to make my son give up his spot at your child's favorite school. My kid just made his decision in the last couple of days and is still digesting it and trying to live with it in the little time he has left before signing on the dotted line.

He worked very, very hard for years and years to earn his decisions, and while he has notified several safety schools of his decision not to attend, he will take the time he needs before signing on the dotted line anywhere.

Your child can indeed commit to another college and then if a spot opens on the wait list for their preferred college, withdraw the commitment to the first college. It's called "summer melt," and admissions offices plan for it.

Instead of emailing me, please have your child communicate their intense interest to the schools to which they are waitlisted. All waitlisted students are qualified. The most interested students are most likely to get those spots.

Thanks for your consideration.
