Paul Tulane Award Applicants

FWIW, my kid had a phone interview. 35 ACT, 4.0 uw, 4.75 w.

My impression was the interview was for the PTA (50 a year) and/or DHS (75 a year).

I think Stamps (5 a year) is separate and comes later.

My son has comparable stats to Harryp17 but was not contacted for interview. Of course, submitted essays and EC comparisons play big role in scholarship decision. Are we concluding that you wonā€™t get PT scholarship if you werenā€™t contacted for interview?

I think @northwesty is right about the Stamps ā€“ doesnā€™t it come later? Iā€™m thinking the optional interview is not indicative of anything . . . maybe they are trying some new program? I hope so, b/c my daughter never got in touch with her person, after emailing twice.

Iā€™m still holding out hope that the interviews are preliminary for Stamps. But I have no idea. Iā€™m just concluding that my Dā€™s stats are probably on the lower end of those they are considering.

You do not need to have an interview for PT or DH. If you create a UPS account with the studentā€™s name, you can already see today whether or not they sent a 2-day UPS package. The packages arrive on Wednesday, and are supposedly only used to notify those who were awarded PT or DH. My sonā€™s UPS account shows a package was sent today and says itā€™s from Tulane Admissions. He wasnā€™t contacted for an interview.

@phokie Nobody on here really knows for sure. I thought I recalled @TulaneMaddie22 saying that interviews are not a prerequisite to being awarded the Paul Tulane or DHS. So, not all recipients of these scholarships will have had interviews. My daughter has not been called for an interview but I am still holding out hope for one of these, even though the odds are very slim, given that there are so many applicants with tippy top stats who applied.

@myoldest - thank you. I just signed my D up but no packages reported. While I was hoping for better news, it helps to put an end to the agony of waiting.

No packages reported here

Nobodyā€™s perfect, including Tulane, so donā€™t give up just yet. Maybe they havenā€™t gotten them all shipped yet. Give it a day or two. At least we know the decision is near. Waiting all around has been tough.

And btw, a big, heartfelt congratulations to you and your S!

Two things: As I understand it, the UPS account has to be in the exact name as his/her application for the delivery to show up.
Regarding the Stamps Scholarship, the finalists and eventual recipients are supposed to be chosen from the DHS and PT applicant pool. There are no interviews necessary for the DHS and PT scholarships.

Thank you very much! It was the only way he could go, so Iā€™m so grateful.

It is almost impossible to differentiate between all of these top notch students. I told my son from the start that itā€™s a coin toss at every level. I really donā€™t know how they make these decisions.

MyOldest ā€“ you work for the CIA or something?

Could you share your apparent winnerā€™s stats?

Funny CIA comment, but no. :sunglasses: ACT 34, weighted GPA 4.7 at a school with a reputation for being tough on grading, 12 APs with 4s and 5s on exams, about 220 hours of community service through 11th, varsity sport 2 years, fluent in two languages.

No package for my kid apparently.

@myoldest - have you checked the Gibson portal? If so, does the scholarship show up? Lastly, out of curiosity, what two languages? My D is fluent in French as wellā€¦

Iā€™m not sure scholarship packages have been sent. I think impending package mailings are first announced on admission blog. I say this from seeing CC comments in past, but could be wrong.

@gratefulmama Havenā€™t checked portal. I donā€™t have his log in and heā€™s not home. He speaks Spanish as a second fluent language.

Thanks, just curious if it is posted on the portals.
