Paying deposit confusion. Please help!

Hello everyone.

My decisions:
I have been put on the priority waitlist at the school of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University. The result is due by May 6th.
I have been accepted to Georgia Tech.

If I do get accepted into the school of computer science at CMU from the waiting list (for several reasons: rank, reputation, close to cousins, etc)

My only other school which I have been accepted to is Georgia Tech. Although I know GA tech is an amazing engineering school, I would choose the computer science program at CMU over Georgia Tech.

The main problem is that Georgia Tech (like all other universities) requires deposits to be paid by May 1st, which is before my waiting list decision. The deposit includes both the admission deposit of 250 USD and the housing deposit of 600 USD. If I dont pay, I will lose my spot at GA tech, and wont be guaranteed housing, should I go there.

What do I do? I do not want to pay the 850 dollar deposit and not even go to GA tech. I dont know my chances off the priority waiting list at CMU.

Can I ask GA Tech for a postponement of the fees? By just a week or so? Do i tell them that Im considering another school?

Read what GA Tech’s website says about deposits. The housing one may be refundable if you cancel before a certain date. But you do have to make a deposit if you want to save a space for yourself there in case you don’t get off the off the wait list.

thanks for the reply.

Ive decided to pay the admissions deposit to reserve a place. Its 250 usd. But I really dont want to pay the housing deposit just yet. its 600 usd and will be a lot of money gone to waste if i get into either one of my waitlisted universities.

will i not get housing if i dont pay the deposit? or is there a way i could defer paying the housing deposit? remember, i will pay the admissions deposit of 250, but not the 600 usd housing just as yet.

guys please help!

thanks

You need to ask Georgia Tech about the housing situation.
