So I just wanted to know how are some of you (those currently attending UF) paying for school and expenses? Just wondering. Do a lot of students have to take out loans for their Bachelors..

Like scholarships you applied for in HS, etc.?

Main reason I’m not going to UF: no merit aid
There’d be a chunk of unpaid expenses. Any college that puts me in debt is not worth it.

Buuut, I have FPP and BF.

Ton of merit/ need scholarships still out there for college students. I don’t know off the top of my head but google would give a thousand hits. Good luck! Wish college was less expensive :)

They say student loan debt is the next housing bubble. With the unstable economy it makes no sense to spend a small fortune on college.

@Niquii – just FYI, I believe that merit scholarship info hasn’t come out yet. According to their website, an email/snail mail is sent out mid to late March.

If I go, it will be on Bright Futures and what my father has left of his GI Bill (2 years, which is all I need as I have my AA).

^ I know it hasn’t come out yet and I know it won’t come close to what I’ve received; therefore, it’s safe to say no merit aid.

@Harley1 Student loan debt is crazy! I remember reading an article of a woman protesting againt her debt. She had probably $100,000 in student loans for her PhD in Woman Studies or something of that nature. It’s mainly due to people borrowing more than they can possible pay back, just like the housing market, and people not planning or researching well-ahead of time, just like the housing market.

“She had probably $100,000 in student loans for her PhD in Woman Studies or something of that nature.”

Just idiotic.

UF sticker price $ 20 000 is over estimate. You can make it with $ 15 000 or less.
This is of course if you live smart and I don
t mean “ramen noodles every day” smart but by choosing $ 2000/sem dorm instead of $ 3300 and taking advantage of many free and low cost opportunities UF offers. Also UF has multiple scholarship opportunities for current students. It
s relatively easy to get $ 1000/year esp. with high GPA. Part time Campus jobs are easy to find and way to pay for food and incidentals.
