Paying for summer programs

I’m looking for some advice, hopefully you can provide input. I was recently accepted into both UF SSTP and MIT Launch (program fee’s $4200 and $5,985 respectively.) I applied for need-based financial aid for both programs, but received none. My family cannot afford to pay more than a fraction of the full tuition + associated expenses for either program, so I’m a bit bummed.

I know it’s a bit of a longshot, but do you know of any scholarship or grants for high school students to attend academic summer programs? Otherwise, do you have any advice for soliciting money to attend one of these programs?

If the summer programs don’t pan out, I have a job lined up for the summer at a local pre-school. I’d spend most of my free time working on college essays / finishing up developing a videogame I’ve been working on for a couple months. Would there be an advantage (with respect to college admissions / my relative happiness) to skipping the summer programs altogether?
