Hey, I was just curious when the bill is due for Tulane. Also, online, it says the Spring Break is from March 29-April 6th. April 6th is a Monday. Does that mean that we are off for Monday or do we start classes on Monday? Thanks!!

You are off that Monday. Tulane has always (always meaning at least as far back as when I was there in the mid-70’s) taken off Good Friday and the Monday after Easter. This year they are just rolling those two days into an extended Spring Break. Probably goes back to the fact that New Orleans was (is?) so dominantly Catholic.

Some years (like this one just past when Easter was very late) the timing doesn’t work out to combine Easter and Spring Break. In those years you will get those two extra days. Assuming they don’t change the policy of course.

I believe payment is due the end of August, and there is a 30 day grace period with no interest or penalties. So effectively you can pay towards the end of September without adverse consequences. Of course you should double check all that when you receive and actual statement, which I assume they still send out sometime in July or very early August.

Just returned from orientation and, yes FC, they said the bills would be emailed to the student at the end of July and are due at the end of August. I’m looking for my notes with the exact dates! Nothing was mentioned about a grace period, so check on that! They did mention 18% interest on outstanding balances!

@DebmomNY - Right, always worth double checking. But I know in the past it was exactly as you describe, and they didn’t start charging interest until after September 30. Of course I am not surprised they didn’t mention this at Orientation!

You should start a thread describing the experience at Orientation. Would be useful for those yet to attend and those that cannot attend.

Thanks, FC, I am working on a new orientation thread

Thanks! I actually called Tulane and they confirmed that there will be no classes on the Monday April 6th. Thanks again!

@Blueberr - I am wounded that you doubted me! LOL, totally a joke, it never hurts to double check. Although that one I was totally sure about. Like I said, it has been a long tradition at Tulane, one that I think makes total sense. I remain surprised more schools don’t do it. Otherwise students have to travel on Easter, if they went home. For the rest, just another free day!

fwiw, I called Tulane’s Office of Accounts Receivable a few weeks ago to understand when/how we would be billed and the woman I spoke to also stated that the payment due date would be at the end of September.

Right. Just to be clear, I do believe that after September 30 they will start charging interest.
