I have two lines on my term bill that say FIN AID DSUB and FIN AID DUNSB for various amounts of money. I never accepted any of the 5,500 in loans that they wanted to give me as financial aid, and I never took out any loans, unless for some reason they automatically give you the loans. What are these exactly?

They assume you are going to accept what you are awarded. If you do not want the loans then you need to go into your Financial Aid Award Letter and at the bottom you should see the Data Change Form. Click on this and fill out the form. At the bottom it details by semester the amounts awarded, here you have the option to change the amounts to less or decline that particular award. Just remember that some grants are only given if you take the loans. So decline the loan - no grant (free money). If you don’t really need the loan but the grant is sizable. Take the loan and pay it off as soon as possible. Of course you will pay some interest but it is nominal and usually the amount of the grant makes it worth the small cost of the fee/interest $27.00 on $2,750.00 to take the loan and then pay it off for a grant of let us say $3,000. Hope this helps.

You should have gotten an email in your Rutgers account containing the link for accepting or declining a specific award. Check and see.

Or go to the “My Tab” page of your myRutgers. Click on “Financial Aid Award Status”. This page should show you what you have been awarded.

If you fill out the FAFSA, you are probably automatically eligible for those $5500 loans (per semester). My son got these also, and declined them via the link provided.

My favorite part of the term bill was that housing wasn’t included. I called financial aid and housing. They said there was a glitch in the housing system and the cost of housing will be included next week. Typical Rutgers.

I’ve also been having problems with my term bill. Not all of my loans had been credited and I mailed in my award letter to Student Accounting on Thursday, but there still hasn’t been an update yet.

EDIT: I just checked my term bill again and while there are still no changes to my balance, I discover that I’ve been billed for 17 credit hours.

takes about a week or so, financial aid is really busy and a lot of students call in for help which takes away people who can do student related account work. You are going to have to just wait a little like 3 days or so and call in and see if they noticed the changes. I know it takes the system 24 hrs to update so they could have updated your acct but it wont show yet.

Daughter is in on-campus apartment. The fall12 term bill continued the same meal plan she had in dorm last semester, however she wants to downsize the meal plan. Can we send payment that assumes the meal plan she wants and have her deal with it at the beginning of the semester?

nj2011- change online, then check to see it updated. It will probably get updated before bills are due in August. Mine took about 1 day but I did it earlier.

Thanks rualum and shipponz. I’ll continue to check my term bill every day this week. So far, no changes to my term bill. Even before the term bills came out, I had a feeling that I would be dealing with the RU Screw much earlier than I thought and I wasn’t surprised that it happened to my term bill.
