Should I get a PC or Mac for university? I'll probably be taking computer science, and hopefully at somewhere like Stanford.

Also, my friend, who is a Stanford alum (just graduated, I think class of '02? He's now getting his PhD) said that he only had a PC desktop (Windows XP) and no laptop.

I really like Macs more than Windows (Macs rule! :D) But which is preferred in universities? Also, the Mac sounds good to me for computer science, since a lot of the applications run on Unix (Apple = Unix environment.)

i have a 15'' powerbook that i use for school. i dont bring it to class ever, but it works for all of my research papers and other assignments. I would say go for a Mac, but only if you can spend enough money to get one of their newer ones.

Since you say "hopefully at Stanford" are you a HS Junior right now? If you aren't going to college this fall, then I would strongly suggest that you don't buy a new computer now. Wait until about a month or two before you go, in order to get the best pricing and the most up-to-date technology possible. Computers change almost every year, so if you got one now when you really need it next year, then you might be wasting bucks now.
