Pe

What do people who hate PE take for PE classes? Badminton?

dude, you can take Walking if you're really hardcore about avoiding exercise.

But I should say - growing up, there are a lot of people at Columbia who focused on intellectual pursuits to the exclusion of athletics. but Columbia is a very nonjudgmental place about that sort of thing. If you're uncoordinated but want to get in shape or learn something (like yoga or karate or volleyball), this is the place and time to do it.

Sign up for something that sounds fun, and on the first day of PE classes (which isn't till the 2nd week of school), check a few of them out. you can switch if you want, they're very flexible.

some of them fill up really quickly (karate, judo, etc) and depending on what it is, wont accept more people

There are a couple things you can take that don't require you to break a sweat -- I think CPR and that sort of thing.

you should keep in mind that the only thing you're graded on in PE is attendance and/or participation.

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/bulletin/uwb/subj/PHED/_Fall2007.html

there's a lot of options. i'm sure you can find something you like.

"ou're graded on in PE is attendance and/or participation."

Really? So even the hardcore uncoordinated ppl get As?

its one credit pass/fail so it doesnt affect your gpa in any way....but failing gym would look bad on a transcript i feel....

Pear, let's hope there's a recreational computer gaming course we can take.

You can't fail. If you don't make the required number of classes (you can miss 6 classes / semester), they'll just give you an incomplete and make you go to some other class sometime next semester until you pass.

I climb rocks for my physical activities but I didn't think Columbia would have a full fledged climbing gym or boulders in the middle of streets to climb on.

no, but there's a rock climbing club that goes to a rock gym down on 60th st. for all i know, they might be willing to get talked into giving you a credit for that.

One word: W00t!

Where does the hiking class go?

i looveee columbia :)))

i weigh 320, so i really hope that there’s some way to avoid hardcore pe. are there pe for heavy people not interested in slimming down much?

…how do you fail gym?

“some of them fill up really quickly (karate, judo, etc) and depending on what it is, wont accept more people” ---- Judo was rough for me when I first started—judo/jujitsu/karate/kungfu mixed martial arts kinda thing I take… but it gets better, I love it now. I wouldn’t say it’s the easy way out of a gym class. Some people argue that studying judo is different from receiving judo, but generally if you study judo, you’re going to receive some. So… have fun with that.

Intro to Fitness – you basically do whatever you want/can to do.

Any information on the availability of Floor Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, or Golf?
