Pell Grant

I’m a new student at Sinclair Community College and was awarded a certain amount of my Pell Grant. However, I checked my awarded amount and seen that it decreased just a few days later. I’m a full time student, I didn’t make any adjustments to my schedule and classes haven’t started yet. They’re both online and the only explanation is that one class is a FlexPace but that doesn’t begin until the 11th of March (The B spring term begins March 11th) so I’m on track with my courses. Any help?

Go talk to your financial aid office…right NOW you are not full time. You won’t be until March 11. Ask them about this.

The reality is…you could decide NOT to take the class…

You are only taking 2 classes and you are full time?

At this point…it’s not March 11. If you are only taking one class…plus the one that starts on March 11…it does NOT sound like you are full time at all.

What was your Pell amount for this semester initially? What was the reduced amount?

Yes bc I’m active duty military

So…why was your first Pell amount…and what was it reduced to?

How many total credits are you taking?

What was your first Pell…not why! Too late to edit!

they took away about $1300. It happened soon after I spoke with someone in the financial aid office. I’m not too sure if if it was altered bc someone there changed it accidentally, but I accepted the initial amount before it was changed. I’m taking 6 total but that’s enough to make me a full time student even if I wasn’t ad for the spring b term. And I’m not trying to sound greedy, I just genuinely want to know/understand.

Are they able to see the initial amount if I call and ask? And what’s weird is I wasn’t notified of the change, no email at all. It was a surprise. Are they able to change it back? The loan amount didn’t change, just the Grant amount

Talk to your financial aid office.

At most colleges…6 credits would not be full time status.

What was your INITIAL Pell award for this term?

6 credits might be considered full time by the school, but Pell only pays at half for 6 credits (federal rules).
