Penalization for Not Taking Pre-Reqs that aren't offered at your CC??

If I were to say, apply as a Major in Engineering to a UC however there were 3-4 major pre-reqs I was unable to take becuase they were not offered at my school, would I still be competitive?

Unfortunately, I don’t think you’d be considered competitive. They’re really critical about applicants completing prereqs. I encourage that you try to complete those prereqs at another cc that offer those courses if you can.

For engineering, those classes should be offered at other CC’s.

As a Linguistics major, most CC’s do not offer Linguistics 101 for whatever reason, so I’d have to take that at whatever university I transfer to. Weird, eh?

Depends on the UC, probably. UCLA and UCB almost certainly wouldn’t let you in while missing prereqs, even if they weren’t offered at your school. For two of my own prereqs, I’ve had to drive four times a week to a CC an hour away… it sucks, but it’s worth it!

Part of it depends on the major/pre-reqs. For EECS at Berkeley, it’s nearly impossible to get Comp Sci 61A&B, even though they’re listed as pre-reqs. But everyone else has the exact same problem, so not having those completed doesn’t hurt chances. If it’s some you should be able to take at a CC, yeah, it’ll probably get you rejected. Basically if you have a school near-ish you with the class you should try to take it.

Aha! Makes sense. Thanks for your help guys!Im about to start in the CCC system this fall for EE and your advice is much apreciated!

Failure622:

Im not too concerned with UCB, I dont think I’ll take all those BIO and CHEM classes anyways.

What did you do about all those ECE courses and one Math course that don’t seem to be offered anywhere for UCSD EE?

And what about COM SCI 32 for UCLA EE?

They generally don’t hold pre-reqs that are not offered against you. The far more important thing is finishing all the pre-reqs that are offered and maintaining a high GPA.
