I plan to transfer to Berkeley as a CS student.

But I can't take any CS 61 series, CS 70 and EE 42.

Will it affect my chance?
Does it really matter??

If they’re pre-reqs, they matter. Supposedly the UC’s do not hold it against your for admission purposes if pre-req courses for your major are not offered at your CCC. I would definitely recommend trying to find a CCC close to you so that you can take them though. That way, you would be a pretty competitive applicant, assuming you kept your grades up.

what’s your gpa and when will you be applying?

berkeley stopped accepting discrete math from community colleges, and very few schools offer any of the 61 series

if you look at berkeley’s college of engineering FAQs, they offer an additional semester to students who are missing more than 3 prereqs–meaning there are students who are missing 3+ prereqs.

i’m actually missing 5.

if there aren’t any schools nearby that offer berkeley’s 61A, B, or C, take similar courses regardless of lack of articulation. even though i’m missing 61A, 61C, CS70, EE20N and EE40, i took discrete math, assembly lang and machine architecture, and circuit analysis. i’m hoping that’ll help.

top-tier UCs like LA and berkeley will most likely dock you for any missing prereqs, especially for impacted majors. i read about some guy who got rejected for missing 1 prereq that his community college did not offer. UCLA admissions told him he should’ve taken it at X college nearby because they offered it.

for UCLA engineering, missing more than 2 prereqs is an automatic rejection.

But there are really few colleges offer those courses``

I’m 4.0 now and gonna apply this year.
I learned some thing like machine learning and search engine building and did some robotics stuff.
But I heard the UCs won’t even care about those```

I am sooo worried about that!!!

were those non-transferrable courses?

whether they were courses or extracurricular activities, list them on your application. berkeley will care about those. although you may lack some core courses, they’ll see that you went ahead and enriched yourself in other ways instead of just sitting around. they’re gonna like the fact that you pursued your interests.

we’ll see what happens on 4/27. if i get into EECS with 5 prereqs missing and 3.92gpa, you likely won’t have a problem

Definitely list those on your extracurrics!

Machine learning is no joke, even at the introductory level it’s an upper division course at most universities, and usually requires at least discrete math, linear algebra, and a couple of courses worth of programming experience.

I’m an EECS transfer, and I came in with absolutely none of the lower-div CS or EE courses. On top of that, I transferred here when they were still articulating for CS 70, which they are no longer doing. I would recommend taking any courses that you can that are related to these, even if they don’t articulate. I took an assembly programming class as well as a circuits class. This probably boosted my application.
And I don’t know where you heard that the UC’s won’t care about that stuff, but they DEFINITELY will. It shows that you really enjoy what you are studying. I got in here with a 3.8 and no lower-div CS or EE courses, so I would say that you’ve got an excellent chance. But to be honest, I kind of wish I had gone somewhere a bit more social. Best of luck!

Thanks a lot, I just heard UCs only receive your personal statement, but they may not really concentrate on it cause you can make it up yourself````

Good luck to you!!!

Thx!! I’ll just keep doing what I like~

So far how many pre-reqs out of how many have you completed?

There’s only maths I can finish for major req in my school``` And some GE

You should leave and go to another CCC. Don’t let your cc ruin your life…

I know UCB may accept you if your cc doesnot provide some pre-reqs, but it’s not good if you miss too many prereqs…
