Penn app

The old app was on the site the other week, but now it's gone. I wanna get a head start on my penn app (wharton)

can somebody tell me what the general essay topics are for the penn supplement and for the penn app?

I know there's one where it's like "why upenn" and there's another one about "page blahblah from your biography" but thas it.

any help from recent applicants?

start with those two; they take awhile to be executed thoughtfully and concisely.

on the past two apps there was a question about which professor you'd like to research with, so learning about wharton professors in fields of interest to you would be beneficial for that.

thanks! can anybody remember any more of them?

i feel like the autobiography topic was under like an "Extra essays" section, something along the lines of "you may write an additional essay on one of the following topics..." wasn't there one about overcoming something difficult as well?

If you choose to do Penn's application, you'll have two mandatory essays: (1) Why Penn, and (2) a choice -- (a) Write page 217 of your autobiography, (b) name a risk you've taken and how it paid off or affected you, or (c) cite a defining first experience you've had (the one I chose).

There are also two "short essays," although they're really not essays at all. You're limited to 300 characters, so it's basically like 2 sentences. One is to name a professor you'd like to study with, and the other asks what you like to do for fun.

If you do the CommonApp, you'll have the regular CommonApp essay, the Why Penn essay, the shorter ones, and then essay 2 above, the one with the choices, is optional. So I guess if you feel like your app would benefit from three essays, you could do it that way.

Hope that helped a bit.

u rock withonevoice, and congrats on penn!

Tell us what you like to do for fun. (500 characters)

Name a Penn professor with whom you would like to study or conduct research and explain why. (500 characters)

Describe the courses of study and the unique characteristics of the University of Pennsylvania that most interest you. Why do these interests make you a good match for Penn? (One page, approx 5000 characters online)

(Optional) Your intellectual abilities, your sense of imagination and your creativity are important to us. If you would like to further express these qualities, you may include an optional essay on one of the following three prompts: (One page, approx 5000 characters online)
(a) You have just completed your 300-page autobiography. Please submit page 217.
(b) First experiences can be defining. Cite a first experience that you have had and explain its impact on you.
(c) Recall an occasion when you took a risk that you now know was the right thing to do.

That's for the Penn supplement to the Common Application, so you'd also have to fill out the two essays for the Common App. If you're applying to one of the joint-degree programs, there an additional essay for that. And if you're applying as a transfer student one or two of the essays are different.

Umm, does the "why Penn" essay ever change or has it been mandatory since its inception?
