Hello everyone,
I am a student interested in applying to Penn next year. I am curious about the relative strength of these majors compared to Penn’s peer institutions, as well as what one can expect from these majors (faculty, course difficulty).
Thanks
I am not a student yet (I’m an incoming freshmen) but I know the econ department is strong. Also you take econ classes at wharton and put that on your resume! That’s what I plan on doing. Good luck! Hope you get in!
For political science/economics, I’ve heard great things about the PPE major at Penn, which is like a combination major that lets you learn about polisci/econ/philosophy all at once. Urban studies at Penn is also said to be one of the best in its field (maybe even the best!). Penn is very strong in all these majors.
@ilovecandy123 The Economics department is in the College of Arts and Sciences, not Wharton. You can take classes in Wharton, but the classes that fulfill the economics major (in the College, I’m not referring to a Wharton degree) will not be taken through Wharton.
^ What he/she said. Also, while “Bachelor of Science in Economics” is the name of the Wharton undergraduate degree (for historical reasons), it is NOT, in fact, an Economics degree. As WhartonPenn2017 stated, one can only major in Economics at Penn in the College of Arts and Sciences. And to reaffirm, Penn’s Economics department is generally ranked among the top 10 in the country, and has been for many decades. Further, as previously mentioned, an Economics (or ANY) major in the College CAN take Wharton courses (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Management, Marketing, etc.), and of course can list those as Wharton courses on his/her resume.
