*Penn Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion*

You guys are so lucky that youre in the US…
The international competition from India is intense. I really hope I get in

Well… 15% of the population in Penn is international. So, you still have a decent chance (if you are not looking for FA.

Thankfully I’m a US Citizen so it’s need blind for me @shivaya And 15% is international, but that number is low
It essentially means 123 Asian students (Class of 2019 profile) which comes to around 30 Indians (approx), Wharton around 5-10! So basically in ED I’m competing for around 3-4 spots

@ShaunakK98 If you’re a US Citizen then the numbers for the international spots (123 students etc) don’t apply to you. You get put in the domestic applicant pool as a US Citizen living abroad, so your chances are actually much higher!

@QuirkyClarkie Are you sure about that? Basically you are saying that US Citizens from India are in a completely different pool? :o

@ShaunakK98 Yes, but it’s complicated. You won’t have to compete for the “International” spots that are capped at about 10% of the incoming class because you are a US Citizen. Beyond that, I’m not sure how the pool works/who you’re compared to etc.

Oh ok. But that’s still a relief

PrayforParis We should all be lucky we're even living to get an education. If we get accepted, geat! If we don't, that's ok! It's not the end of the world

@ShaunakK98 - if you are an US citizen, then you won’t fall in the international quota. It will probably depend on the state where your parents file taxes (if they still do).

Any ideas on the best way to prepare for an interview? Like is there any questions I should think about or anything in specific

I think we need to all take a moment, and stop stressing out about interviews and applications. Next year we will be going to college. Let that actually sink in. Our lives are going to be completely different in a matter of months. How crazy is that?

My interviewer is super young, he just graduated this year. Idk if that will make it better/more relatable or worse

@VaishS Definitely better dude…I hope I get a young interview (if I even get one) because not only are they more relatable, but it means you can also bond over things that millenials have in common!

Agreed. Definitely better

@stehyh Curious question - Approximately how many Wharton Chinese applicants are there? Is the business competition intense? Do you have any idea how many Chinese students are admitted each year to Penn?

3 weeks, 5 days, 22 hours, and 54 minutes left :open_mouth: :((

My interviewer was cool; however, he did talk most of the time telling me how to get into IB post college. He was at HBS, too, so he had a student “feel” to him

@ShaunakK98 It’s pretty competitive. Some Chinese Wharton applicants are definitely academically qualified, like having high test scores and perhaps awards in academic competitions/events. I think UPenn accepts more than one student per year from a few schools that they recognize. Not every well-qualified applicant gets in though because I feel like Chinese students underestimate the importance of ECs and essays, and because college admissions are just a crapshoot lol. I attend an intl school so I’m not sure about the numbers for all Chinese applicants, hope this helps though
