Penn essays-word limits?

I know the Common app specifies that the essays should not exceed a page,
but the Penn app does not specify the word limits for the essays.
Does anyone know that whether we should follow the Common app instruction for word limit?

the penn app explicitly states "do not exceed a page"

Really? Where? I can't seem to find in Penn app website, mentioning anything about word limit.

Ok, the paper app does say do not exceed a page.
God, I hate when the colleges are so ambiguous about these requirements.
Especially this year's Penn app website is not great at all.

that's weird, i just checked. the app website doesn't say anything.

but the paper form does. it says don't exceed one page.

Does the Penn app website allow you to just keep typing or does it stop taking input at some point? It may not explicitly say "do not exceed one page" because it won't allow you to type beyond a certain length.

does one page refer to single spaced or double spaced? i already submitted mine and they were singled spaced so.....

I put mine at around 500 words, single spaced. I think that's okay. Double spaced would be really short.

@ percy - the penn app allows you to upload a .doc file. it converts it into a .pdf and that's how the adcoms will see it. no explicit max length, but we all know the limit...
