Anyone received the FA package? Is the information shown on PENN Plan correct? Will it be the final FA package?
My daughter hasn’t received the FA package either, and the PENN Plan page on her Penn Portal is blank. She has emailed the FA office.
Mine said Not Qualified for FA, contrary to Net Price Calculator.
@f2000sa Have you sent in all your forms? Penn says my financial aid evaluation is incomplete because I have yet to send in my fafsa and apparently they need “additional information” which they said they have sent in a letter.
That’s weird that you didn’t qualify for financial aid if the calculator said you did. Were you expecting to receive aid? Have you contacted the office?
I got my actual acceptance letter today but my FA package did not come. I submitted my forms like 1 day after the deadline. But my FA information is on the Penn Portal, not sure if it’s accurate. I didn’t submit the fafsa yet but no one has since all that starts Jan. 1st, right??
@SylvRsr I’m in the same boat. You’re right on the Fafsa.
Son’s portal read: Your Financial Aid Eligibility
Thank you for your financial aid application.
Since your total family contribution, as determined by Penn, is greater than the cost of attendance, you are not eligible for need-based aid.
PennPlan online will help you assess expenses, consider resources, and review payment options. Note that you are eligible for a federal Direct Loan of $5,500 of which up to $3,500 may be eligible for a federal interest subsidy. You can read more about the Direct Loan on the following pages.
If you have questions, please contact Student Financial Services to speak with your Assistant Director.
We were told that this indeed is the final FA package. If it isn’t enough and we wanted to get out of ED binding due to no aid, we could sit down with the Financial aid officers and go over everything… but if you are told “no aid” it is Final.
@runswimyoga I got the same message on portal. The issue is that the NPC said that we entitled to some FA. There is a huge difference.
I would call the asst director of Student FS then and ask then bc they won’t re-evaluate it unless you request it… We didn’t run the net price calculator with real numbers so I wasn’t sure what ours would be… I am told Penn is not very generous with aid compared to other Ivies unfortunately.
But in the worst case scenario, they will release you from binding decision if it isn’t enough aid-as long as you don’t go to another ivy, is what they told us before son applied (but before they release you they would sit down and try to rerun aid numbers)… if that helps
Thanks . If they release you from ED contract, Do they also revoke your admission?
Yes. If you want out of ED, you can do that, but you are saying goodbye to Penn. You can’t say, “I can’t honor my ED commitment because the financial aid offer is not workable,” and also say “but maybe I’ll decide that it really is workable later after I see what other colleges accept me and what they offer.”
