^^ you directly compare their locations. If you had mentioned Millenium park or Navy Pier, maybe it might be a comparison of the city…but it seems that you compare the closest locale to Uchicago…which prompts me to bring up how Uchicago is bounded on the other side by a notoriously dangerous are :)

It’s like saying New Haven is safer than Morningside Heights. UChicago=Penn=most other schools ranked in the top15, get over it people and stop ■■■■■■■■ this s***.

First off, Penn is not overrated in the least. Yes, Wharton has a claim to being the best business school in the world, but Penn has much more going for it.

This is from what I’ve seen when I was investigating schools during my application process.

Top 5: School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Dental Medicine, Wharton School, Annenberg School for Communications, School of Design
Top 10: Law School
Top 15: School of Social Policy & Practice, School of Education

Plus, there’s the Top 10 and Top 20 ranked departments that compose the School of Arts & Sciences (like Economics or Anthropology). People need to quit sleeping on Penn. There are only two universities that I feel can clearly offer the breadth Penn does, with a slightly better quality (and I mean slight) those being Harvard and Stanford.

Penn’s a great school though…largely because of Wharton. I wouldn’t say exclusively because of Wharton but largely because of Wharton. That’s how most schools are

You need to meet more people at Penn, ilovepeople. My friends went off to academia, government service, Teach For America, along with business, law, medicine. Dare I say you are not an authority on the University of Pennsylvania.

And shouldn’t UChicago people be above such things as belittling other schools to make themselves look (or just feel) better?

Chicago hasn’t been a top 5 school in quite some time…It was 7 (after Berkeley) last year and tied for 6 with Berkeley this year. Just to state the facts…

Well, I’ve been practicing law for over 30 years and my Chicago degree STILL opens doors for me. I haven’t noticed the effect of the drop in ranking. :)

People who think Penn is all pre-professional really don’t “get” the place at all. Actually, pre-professional is sort of a stupid term, although one we tend to use a lot here on CC. Don’t most college kids aspire to jobs (perhaps after grad school)? Just so happens that many Penn students (and Williams, Chicago, NYU, other Ivys) aspire to jobs that actually pay enough for them to be able to move out of Mommy and Daddy’s house. Not unique to Penn. Does pre-professional mean law or medicine? Again-not unique to Penn. Wharton? Somewhat unique to Penn, but we can sort of stick them all in one building and focus on the rest of the place. :)

That is blatantly untrue. Have you done the downtown to Hyde Park/vice versa trip?? It takes around an hour, maybe 40 minutes if you’re lucky with timing. Maybe if you have a car it takes 15-20 minutes, but students don’t have cars (that I know of–who the heck wants to pay parking in downtown? It’s like 20 bucks an hour).

Also, there’s really no point in arguing which school is better…they’re completely different. ((I’m going to Wharton next week, and I did a summer program at Chicago/lived downtown-River East for two years))

Penn’s ranking has little to do with Wharton. It affects the endowment(lots of wealthy wharton alums), and knocks one or two percent off the overall acceptance rate. That’s about it.
