I’m a junior looking to apply to M&T early decision next fall. Am I way out of my league or is this something I can hope for? If not, what schools/programs are in my range?
Here are my stats:
GPA: 97.3
ACT: 36
SAT: 2320
SAT2: 770 Chem, 800 Math 2
APs: Compsci, Euro, Calc BC, Language & Composition, Psychology, US History, and Physics 1
Extracurriculars: VP of tutoring club, VP of business club, board of computer science club, robotics club, key club, varsity tennis
Internships: Real estate investment company, diamond company, local non-profit, senior center
Summer plan for this year: internship at a quantitative analyst firm in NYC
Indian vocal music, indian percussion
Nationality: Indian
You are obviously not out of your league. The only issue is that there are many many super qualified Indians with similar or even snightly better stats applying to M&T, especially from the top NYC high schools ( I m guessing u are attending one of them) which will make it more difficult. That said, you seem like a very competitive applicant and u should apply since u are well within the admissible range.
^^ You are competitive, but admissions to M&T is incredibly difficult, and it would be foolish to put too much hope on one possibility. You certainly should apply to M&T, but also have a range of other options.
You are a qualified candidate. Problem is that there will be tons of qualified candidates for few spots so it is a long-shot for preempt much everyone. All you can do is apply and see what happens. But certainly have a good range of reach, match, and safety schools on your application list.
I agree with all of the above: you’re impressive, but you’re also in the most competitive pool (Asian) for the most competitive program (M&T) at one of the most competitive universities in the country.
