Penn is certainly one of the top schools in the country. It’s ignorant and demeaning to refer to it as a safety-school as seems to be so common among prestige whores. Any unbiased look at Penn should dispel that image.
Wharton alone should stop the discussion, but there is much more than that. It seems to be implied far too often in the press and on these boards.

i agree. i love penn more than life itself and would chose it over all that harvard/yale bull **** any day of the week. yay penn!

I really love Penn as well. For some, though, prestige is more important when choosing an institute for higher education... different strokes for different folks, I guess.

agreed.

point of contention: any look at wharton? any look at the college too!

yeah
I want to go to the College too

sure, penn isnt a safety school unless to applicants who are super qualified. but the fact remains that each incoming class to penn is second biggest in the ivy league, thus that explains the higher accept rate.

Higher acceptance rate=more diversity=good for a small town girl with big town interests

seems really silly to say its a safety skl... whoeva says that lets see if s/he is accepted. as for me, i'd love to go there... crossing my fingers coz i know its competitive.

i love to go to penn, but i love my life better :P

mengcheng> Which Ivy has the biggest incoming class?

I think Cornell has the biggest class?

yeah, its like 3000 something, we only have like 2000 something, bu after ass all the others are like 1000 somthing or less.

Cornell, 3000
Penn, 2400
Harvard, 1640
Brown, 1450
Yale, 1310
Princeton, 1,175
Dartmouth, 1,075
Columbia, 1,100 ("college" only; otherwise, 1,550)

Penn is by no means a safety. Penn is hot. People just put it down because there is some hardcore partying going down at the university right smack dab in the city of brotherly love, and no one can handle that, obviously.
