So I was accepted ED, and was wondering - is it required to go to a Penn Preview Day? Is it strongly encouraged to go to a Penn Preview Day? I'm asking because as a California resident the air fare is rather expensive at the time when you RSVP for the date and I need to save the money, plus, I can only go to the Preview Day offered on the 18th due to schedule concerns. However, on the website it says that "We will require all admitted students to sign up for this event in advance", so I don't know if a Penn Preview Day is mandatory or not. (Incidentally, I already visited campus.) Thanks in advance!

No, it’s not mandatory in any sense.

Is it a parents thing, or could I do go by myself and do an overnight with a student? I’m kind of confused about what it is exactly.

It’s more of a “family” thing. It has important stuff for parents (tuition related stuff, etc) as well as for students. You get to see dorm rooms, visit classes (if I remember right), and so on.

I’d strongly encourage you to go.

For those that come to Philly from other places-like Florida-how can you wait until March to register and then arrange a flight? Can an unlimited number come to any of the days?

I’m going to bump this thread.

If it’s only about financial aid, dorms, campus, etc, then why is it so strongly encouraged to attend? Won’t all these things come together during the first few weeks at Penn anyways? and since we’re accepted ED, it’s not like we have to make a choice.

It’s a great time to meet people and become acquainted with the place that you will call home for the next four years. I mean…knowing where everything is, or at least having a sense for it will help out a lot, right?

Damn…I want to go, but I can’t << I really hope I’m not missing out on anything huge, like the BONDS OF A LIFETIME or something.

preview days are usually for RD students who have not fully decided which college to go to. If it’s a financial problem for you to attend, this is not the thing to waste your money on. As you said, you have already visited the campus and you will have 4 years to get to know the campus and everyone there. It is not critical to attend preview.
