Not necessarily. While there may be groupings of acceptances within a college, by no means do all of the decisions for a specific college all come out at the same time. I don’t want someone who applied for a specific major to think they likely didn’t get in if they see decisions coming and they don’t get theirs. Penn State decisions are completely and frustratingly random.
Where on portal does it say if you applied early action or regular decision? I thought all were early action if submitted prior to Nov 1?
The admissions office works on Fridays so decisions can come out on Saturdays, but usually don’t come out on Sundays with the exception of very close to the deadline when they are trying to get decisions out.
It depends on what you chose on the application. There’s an EA option, a Priority option and a Rolling option on the common app. Rolling would be last to hear - although some have reported back here that admissions told them as long as all materials were in prior to Nov 1 then they would be considered for EA - but in years past, it was based on what you selected.
Thanks! I just didn’t see anything on the portal indicating/confirming which was selected
Thanks. Also I just read on PSU Smeal page that the preferred application was thru the MyPennState. Do you think using the CommonApp for Smeal was a disadvantage?
I remember seeing I think as early as yesterday the ability to change from test optional or not. I just looked now and the tab to change is now gone. Updating decision??
Look to see if the Test Optional button is still on your portal page. Ours has disappeared within the last hour or so.
using the CommonApp vs the MyPennState will not make any difference in your acceptance.
Also, I am pretty sure that anyone who had all their materials in by the EA deadline were considered EA, regardless. (if PSU would just do something the same way two years in a row, everyone would feel better!!)
Good luck to everyone. You’ll end up in the best place for you –
Check the portal later at midnight… I am 95% sure you will have your decision by then! Most people whose TO button disappeared around 6:30 / 7 pm got their decisions at midnight! Good luck!!
Hi! Can anyone answer this question:
If you apply for Summer start at university park and are admitted for that, can you appeal to start in the Fall at university park?
Keep us posted! My D is also nursing and we are anxiously waiting
No I don’t believe so. Below is straight from their website:
We review students’ applications for their chosen semester of enrollment first, which is typically the fall semester. If we are unable to offer fall admission, and a student indicates that the summer session is an option, we then review the application for admission to the summer session. Admission to this session is slightly less competitive than fall admission. The summer session is mandatory for students accepted into the summer session at the University Park campus if the student is not admissible to the fall semester start.
I think I am more anxious than my D. This is the first if it comes out that I have heard of any nursing decisions coming out. Hopefully this is a sign that more will follow quickly. Best of luck!!
But if the student didn’t ask to be considered for Fall first (at all), then they were never considered for fall and thus might get a review for fall as well…I’m guessing it’s worth asking
DD accepted EA this morning! Can confirm that her “test optional” button went away last evening, and then (after almost 2 minutes waiting for the website to load), the"Congrats" paragraph was there this morning. She is in the College of Agricultural Sciences, so hoping some others from that college also heard good news!! Top 3 choice for her, if only we weren’t OOS for tuition!
You can only ask for fall start if you never applied for fall to begin with. If you apply for fall with optional summer start checked, that means they evaluate for fall first, if they can’t offer you admission for fall, they look to see if you checked yes to summer. If yes, they evaluate you for summer. If they can offer you summer, they will, if not, they offer the 2+2.
If you applied summer directly, and then decide you want fall, you can call and ask to be evaluated for fall.
My daughter was admitted for fall for the past year, but chose to go summer (because her siblings did summer and absolutely loved it) and it was only a phone call to do that because it was a “downgrade” in difficulty of admission. If you are doing an “upgrade” in difficulty in admission, then you may need reviewed again by admissions.
D accepted to nursing this morning! She is excited!
Would you mind sharing her stats? Congratulations!!
Well D22 heard this morning that she did not get into UP for Nursing. Kinda thought if she got into Pitt, and Udel that she’d get into Penn State, but oh well.
