Penn State DISCUSSION THREAD Fall 2022 Admission

does the TOC button go away if you submitted scores?

The button was there for all applicants, whether they have submit score or not.

We submitted scores and TO button just went away. Good Luck!

can you get your decision without the TO button disappearing?

I think itā€™s possible. But so far this year it seems to be the TO button disappear the night before the decision (which comes out at around midnight ET).

TO Button disappeared yesterday around 6:20 pm, and decision was in portal at midnight. Right on cue. (Smeal/UP)

Son has had this message for a month. Sigh.

Congrats! Similar stats to my son who was accepted today for summer as well! Smeal School of Business.

Congratulations! My son was accepted to Smeal Summer program as well!

Ugh. My daughter got summer start. Thereā€™s no way sheā€™d consider that because sheā€™d have to miss the last week of her senior year, graduation, senior trip, etc. I wish she hadnā€™t sent her scores because it looks like people who went test optional got in for Fall.

Why would she have to miss graduation? Summer start is in July, right? When we toured, we were told that about 1/3 of freshman at main campus have the summer start. Itā€™s a great way to make freshman year a little less stressful and to get acclimated to campus in a relaxed way. I do understand not wanting summer to end early, but I have never heard of anyone having a graduation in July that they had to miss for the Penn State summer program.

Pretty much! Summer start move-in is on June 27, 2022 next summer and runs for 6 weeks. I would hope that seniors have all graduated by then! :slightly_smiling_face:

She graduates the last week in June, then has a senior trip planned. It wouldnā€™t mean ending summer early, it would mean canceling summer altogether. She wonā€™t consider it at all. :frowning:

I got 2 + 2 at Altoona, super bummed and wonā€™t attend, I will graduate high school with my
AA, and a 3.99 gpa so there is no need for me to ā€œadjust to collegeā€ at a branch campus. I didnā€™t consider summer session because itā€™s expensive and I would need the summer to work in order to pay to go to PSU anyways. I might try and get reconsidered as DUS but Iā€™m unsure, Iā€™m just pretty upset right now as PSU has been my dream school forever.

Thatā€™s a shame to hear. Summer is really a great option.

If Penn State is her #1, she can email admissions and request to be reviewed for DUS for fall start. (Or even TO for fall for DUS). Just donā€™t do this is she doesnā€™t intend to go or not her #1. Not fair to others.

There is no difference starting DUS (undecided) vs. starting Smeal ā€¦ you arenā€™t ā€œinā€ your major until sophomore year and ETM (entrance to major) classes are completed. They can be completed from DUS or Smeal. Historically ā€¦. Smeal admittance is more competitive than DUS so there may still be an opportunity.

Iā€™m so sorry. You probably would have gotten Summer start if you had checked that box. I honestly think you were both penalized for sending scores. Itā€™s so frustrating for me to watch my daughter work hard to get straight As in 4 years of honors and AP classes, to then see her classmates whoā€™ve never taken a rigorous course, and have a mix of As and Bs, get into Fall start because they applied test optional. Youā€™ll find the right college that appreciates you!

Thank you for that idea. I will definitely tell her to consider that. I donā€™t see Summer start as a great option at all. Not only does the student have to go to school in the summer, but they have to pay out of state tuition for an extra semester. I think there is a reason they admit so many people this wayā€¦$$$
