Penn State DISCUSSION THREAD Fall 2022 Admission

Is everyone having issues with the scholarship application linking putting out a FileMaker 403 error? It seems unreachable and the early applications are due 12/31.

What scholarship application?

At UP or PSU?

The application found here that recommends applying before 12/31.

Same error message!

Iā€™m not crazy! Tried contacting them but imagine they wonā€™t see it until Jan 3.

What was the application fee again? $65 each right? 65x60000 is enough to hire a few more so they can at least meet their promised decision time. Seems like quite a few here havenā€™t heard EA yet, and decisions were promised by Dec 24, which ends in 50 minutes. Very different experience with PSU than other schools so far: Pitt accepted early, Tennessee accepted on time with a large scholarship (basically makes it same as in-state) and Charlotte (safety) accepted 6 weeks ahead of promise. Sadly PSU missed the deadline. Other schools game themselves more time so havenā€™t missed their promised deadlines yet. I find this a bit disappointing.

Daughter hasnā€™t heard and has been checking all night since 12/24 was the promised deadline ā€”- very frustrating

I donā€™t understand why we havenā€™t heard a decision yet. Are the stated positive admissions decisions above for OOS or UP?
Am I missing something? We were a little late getting our SRAR done (2 weeks).

We also have not heard and had all items in before the Nov 1 deadline

UP = University Park

I would agree with this comment. Although my son did get his acceptance awhile back, I feel for those still waiting. I donā€™t like the idea of giving a date and not holding to it, especially during the holidays, which are already emotional times for many people. In general I have also found the processes at other schools (also all large division 1 flagship universities) much less of an enigma. Good luck to all of you waiting patiently!

My son and 5 of his friends all applied early action. Not one has heard a word from Penn State. The fact that they posted on Facebook that the EA decisions would be posted by Christmas Eve (could there be a worse day?!) and then posted that their offices would be closed from 12/18-1/3 really bothers me - totally unprofessional.

website states SRAR must be submitted by Nov 1 with completed application to be considered EA. We did not realize that until too late.

that stinks. Did they all have everything complete by the deadline? I know that has caught up people in the past. (one of our friends didnā€™t get SAT in time). Doesnā€™t help now, but I know that many of us advised people to call and/or email admissions last week to confirm that everything was received by the deadline.

I would still encourage you (or son) to send an email to admissions. Even though no one is answering calls, I have found that there is staff (in other departments) answering emails. Worth a try rather than sitting and getting frustrated? (at least you can send an email and still get frustrated - argh!).

sorry to hear. good luck.

I would encourage you to send an email to admissions. There may be staff responding to emails but not answering phones?

good luck.

I think my daughter got all of her stuff in by 11/1 - she sent an email to admissions but received a auto reply back - guess she will wait til 1/3 ā€¦I would like to think if they received an application marked EA but the applicant didnā€™t meet deadline requirements then the student would receive an email or communication stating they were put in RD due to missing the required deadlineā€”ā€”call me crazy

His portal shows that everything is in but heā€™s not the only one. None of his friends have heard either.

We didnā€™t realize it either but they sent us an email and told us that she was missing it from her application and we turned it in right away. It shouldnā€™t be a big deal.
Everything is confirmed in the portal. But still no answer.

Unfortunately, not hearing from a university by the EA anticipated release is very common especially at large universities. The admission departments very rarely get to assess all the applications by the deadline. I know that Michigan and Rutgers annually defer 1000ā€™s of applications from EA that they just donā€™t get to. Add to this the increased applications at Penn State and work shortages due to covid, itā€™s not surprising that there are students still waiting. It can be difficult but it is to be expected. I believe 190 ish applied from my sonā€™s High School and the majority are still waiting. He heard within 2 weeks and gained fall admissions oto the main campus however, students that we would consider much stronger candidates are still waiting.
