I live in Pennsylvania and am choosing between Penn State and Clemson! Obviously PSU makes more sense logistically, being in-state. The cost is relatively the same after generous scholarships. I was accepted to the business programs at both schools, but every time I have visited PSU, I got a feeling that I could not see myself there. I haven’t made my way to visit Clemson because it is a lot less convenient, but I know I would love it so much because of the warm weather and beautiful campus. I’m really looking for any helpful advice on which I should choose, as well as which has the better business program and post-college career services/internships?
Clemson had the happiest and friendliest students of all the colleges my daughter visited. She wound up not applying there because she wanted snow, so she is at the University of Minnesota. Since you know you want warm weather, just choose Clemson, assuming the scholarships are not too hard to keep (look at fine print for GPA requirements). Your opportunities will be great at either place, and you will thrive more in a place you really want to be.
- visit Clemson. If you got into honors, coordinate your visit with them.
- are you direct admit for business at Clemson, or pre-admit? Did you get into the honors college?
It sounds like you prefer Clemson but make your due diligence. After visiting Clemson, things will be clearer.
I went to Clemson, and it is a great choice especially if you like warmer weather.
have you looked at any other large publics closer to PA? Like NC State? Clemson is 1 hour from nearest airport. During breaks a lot of your time will get wasted travelling back to PA. a lot of students get homesick their first year so it is worth considering at least staying within a few hours drive of home.
The application deadline for NCSU has passed.
I don’t necessarily think being homesick should be a huge concern. Some students get homesick and others don’t. And the solution to being homesick isn’t necessarily to run back home, anyway.
Go to Clemson. PSU is no better academically and you prefer the weather. Plus PSU is also very expensive even for in-state students like you.
