penn state or ohio state?

I am a biology major but will probably switch to computer science next year. I also plan on applying to med school. Here is my situation(I am oos for both schools btw):

Penn State: have been here since the spring and so far am not amazed with the facilities/atmosphere. I am also paying full tuition as an int student, haven't found a niche on campus, and don't really fit in with the people on my hall. Professors are ok, but most classesrooms are outdated and old, although the new buildings are quite impressive.

Ohio State: i would get a $6 thousand scholarship for being an int, which is not much but helps a lot since my family has a low income. Because of my act score, I might be able to get in the honors program, which is important since the honors program at psu is very selective and I am not doing my best to begin with. Also, osu has a more diverse student body and seems to have more resources.

So, can anyone comment if transferring to ohio is worth it? I know the atmosphere of most big ten schools will be the same, but are the dorms there better? What about the classrooms--do they look modern? One thing I wasn't delighted about psu is that some of my classrooms do not seem like a improvement at all over those in hs (considering that I went to a public hs in queens,ny, that is somewhat frustrating at a 30k tuition).

Alternatively, I guess I could go to a SUNY, but i might be too late to be admitted for this fall.

Thank you.

frasi..have you talked with your advisor about your concerns? Have you had a history of slow transitions in your life where it takes awhile to become happy and comfortable in a new environment? Are freshman just not exposed to the better labs?

Write a list and go to your advisor and get your questions answered. You can then make a better decision.Good Luck.

I understand your dissatisfaction with Penn State - you have been pretty clear about that since you got there - but I really think transferring to Ohio State on the slight chance that they have better dorms and facilities is not a great idea. I do not think you are too late for a SUNY, although I do not know that their facilities and dorms are any better.
I suggest that next week when you are on break from PSU you make at least a day trip to a SUNY near you - or - if you really are serious about Ohio State - actually go and visit OSU. It is stupid to transfer to a place you have never seen if the facilities are of that much importance to you because yes, the atmosphere at OSU will likely be very similar to PSU.
Otherwise, try to hang on another year at PSU but spend the summer looking (go and visit) for alternative schools to transfer to the following year.

^Thanks. Yeah, I hope everything works out with a suny, although I concur their campus definitely won't be better than psu's. Staying here another year could be an option, but 30k a year is a lot, especially since I am only taking intro classes, and i think it is unfair to put parents in the position to pay for another year knowing that I won't stay here and that I can get the same experience going somewhere cheaper. The thing that appeals to me about osu is that the tution would be at 6k least lower and that I might get into the honors program, which has many advantages like priority scheduling. But then again, I don't really know if they will base this decision on my ACT score and hs grades alone-- if the weigh in my history, I might not be eligible. And I don't want to go there only to find out that it is the same thing or worse, either.

So, if anyone familiar with osu could comment, it would be great. Traveling back and forth to visit schools isn't really something feasible for me at the moment.

YUp SUNY campuses are not that great. They are very bland. as far as their facilities go they arent great either. Ohio State does have nice facilities. I havent seen PSU so i can really compare. I know Ohio State from experience has amazing facilities. Their rec center is rated as the best in the US. their science facilities are mostly new awesome buildigs. Also in the center u have the historic building feel if u like that. Dorms vary. U have ugly looking dorms and really nice historic looking dorms. I got accepted to OSU for this Fall's freshman class and I can tell u their campus is really nice. I really cant tell u if its nicer to PSU's though.

^Thanks for the help. Great to hear that osu's campus has an inspiring atmosphere. I have seen a couple of videos and it does look awesome. PSu's campus is not bad, but their facilities are not very conserved.

Hopefully, they will still take me for the fall.

I know for freshman spots, the deadline was Feb 1st but im not sur ebout transfer.

I was accepted last year but decided not to go, so i don't know if they will require another application or how the decision would be made.
