Penn State or Syracuse?

After a long list of colleges, I have finally narrowed my decision down to Penn State or Syracuse University. I cannot decide which one I want to go to more! I was hoping to get some advice or recommendations from people. Please share your thoughts!

Hey GoStopGo, I know a couple of people who got into Syracuse (not including myself) and I am going to Penn State and here are some things I’ve heard of Syracuse. I hear Syracuse’s Newhouse is outstanding. The campus is supposed to very pretty; gothic cathedrals, big, etc. but the downside is the surrounding city. I hear Syracuse is a dump and the weather gets unbearably cold. My friend said it was -6 degrees when she went there early January. The cost of Syracuse was also expensive since it’s a private school.

I’ve never been to Syracuse, but I’ve been to State College and it’s a pleasant little city (more of a town, actually). The population of State College is around 40,000-45,000 people, so the majority of that is college students. I liked Penn State because it really felt like the quintessential college town that anyone can ask for: Lots of restaurants, shops, CHEAP theaters, supermarkets, bank, etc. The campus of Penn State (at University Park) is outstanding. There is the HUB which is like a mall within the university! The campus is HUGE, very very spread out and there is always something going on! Penn State has really awesome programs with business, science, and communications as well.

I’m super biased because I loved Penn State and i’ll be going there this fall and Syracuse sounded bad because my friend was not enthusiastic about that place but i’m sure it’s different for everyone. I would try and visit both schools and make a list of pros and cons.

Good Luck!

I agree. Penn State all the way. On a side note you picked a bad place to post this if you wanted an unbiased opinion…(oxymoron?)

Anyway, in many aspects I feel like Syracuse is a watered down Penn State. Lets go down the list shall we.

Syracuse is a big school.
Penn State is bigger.

Syracuse has tons of school spirit.
Penn State has more school spirit than the student body can handle.

We bleed blue and white. Whereas at Syracuse you may see rabid fans but no ones bleeding orange. Thats just weird.

Syracuse has arguable one of the best Communications and Media colleges in the nation with Newhouse.
Penn State has the number 1 business school in the country with smeal and and amazing engineering program that is also arguably one of the nations best.

Syracuse has sub zero temperatures on a daily basis. Okay well maybe not sub zero but its damn cold in syracuse.
Penn State can get pretty cold…but not that cold.

I can go on but I think you get the point.

Just to clarify, Penn State has the number one supply chain management program, not overall business program
