Penn State UP DUS versus Engineering question

If you apply and are accepted DUS at UP is it more difficult to get into the same pre-engineeering classes as the Engineering majors students

Not that I know, just make sure to take the earliest NSO date possible to schedule classes as quickly as possible.

Should be as in both engineering and earth minerals freshman engineering/earth minerals are open to the college and DUS students. Also, at NSO last summer you could change majors between any school except business. So you might be able to change to engineering in NSO

You can’t switch into Engineering, Smeal majors, education, or nursing at NSO. Also, as everyone in the world decides to apply DUS, it is getting increasingly difficult to get in that way as well.

Keep in mind that PSU admissions is not a monolithic process, despite its size. What happened last cycle is not always what happens this time, and all results are influenced by this year’s application group. So take all advice with a small grain of salt.

@greenbutton I was at NSO and we were told you could change to any major but business.

DUS is easier to get into that Engineering for sure…but it’s not ‘the easiest’ major in which to get accepted any longer. That’s because so many people pick that route. However, you can ONLY get into Engineering sophomore year as a DUS major or a pre-engineering student.

As far as changing into other majors at NSO - it is possible. But not for engineering generally. As @greenbutton pointed out, you cannot change into Engineering, Smeal, Education, Nursing and I’ll add Golf course management or any of the portfolio required majors at NSO. You can change to most others though.

What about looking at Earth Minerals College they have a few engineering majors.

Son Accepted to PSU-UP Aerospace Engineering class of 2024 so all is good
