Alright so I'm an extremely indecisive person right? and the may 1st deadline is really creeping up which only concerns me. I'm trying to decide whether i should go to Penn state university park or Rutgers in New Brunswick. I like big schools which is why I'm choosing between the two. Penn state would be instate for me and is what my parents prefer because of this. I would double major in communications and creative writting.

But I'm also a city person and am worried about Penn state's location.

Oh, ha, and I already gave my deposit to Penn state but I couldddd change my mind possibly and just give Rutgers a deposit since I've still been thinking about this decision. and its been a few days since i sent in my deposit form.

I'm just worried because rutgers has recently attracted me for some reason but I've been hearing better things about penn state in terms of opportunities after I graduate and even while I'm working on my undergrad.

Another problem that I have with pennstate is that it is such a large school and I know alot of people who are going there and I'm afraid that it will be just like high school and I want to start fresh in a sense. But at the same time I can't really think of a rational reason to attend Rutgers other than I like the name and their school colors and I've heard wonderful things about thier english program.

I know Rutgers and Pennstate are quite similar in terms of education. The problem for me has always been the price and frankly penn state has given me more money to attend there (which is expected from an in-state school)

Um, PSU??? Seems like an easy decision on many fronts…and don’t think that NB is a ‘city’ like experience…imho, PSU is a much better school then Rutgers

It’s funny, we’re in NJ where lots of people go to Rutgers. Plenty like it but it’s a kind of luke warm type of school…difficult to fall in love with. Those I know who really want to have fun, and pay the bucks (like my nephew) go out of state to PSU. Most love it and are life long blue and white die hards.

Did you apply to Pitt (or Temple?). They seem more your type.

I can’t talk from experience, but my mom grew up in New Brunswick, and she says she hated it. Go for Penn State, you’ll get the in state tuition.

well thanks guys! i guess my biggest problem with going to pennstate has really been that I know alot of people from my school there and i wanted to start fresh. not that anything bad has happened but just that i always viewed college as a chance to start all over and reinvent yourself. I’m really warming up to the idea of going to pennstate now. Just gotta tell all of those other schools i’m not going there.

and 2331clk I never did apply to temple or pitt. i thought about it but didn’t for one reason or another. kinda wish i had though. ha,

I mean worst case scenario if i really hate it I can always transfer right?

Penn State is so big, that unless you want to see your HS friends, chances are that you will go weeks (if not longer) without running into any of them on campus. Don’t worry about that.

And yes, if you keep your grades up, you will be able to transfer should you realize that Penn State isn’t for you.

I stumbled across this forum and signed up specifically to respond to your question. If you choose to attend Penn State to study communications, creative writing, or both, you will undoubtedly regret it. The college of liberal arts is in turmoil after budget slashes…it’s mayhem. The world-wide top-five creative writing graduate students? The ones that would have taught you, had you attended a few years earlier? Gone - that program has disappeared, and won’t recover anytime soon.
oh my gosh, i’m so scared right now. its already may 1st and i half like less than half an hour until its past the deadline. idk what to do… should i go to pennstate for a semester and then transfer!!!
