Penn VS. William and Mary?

OK, I’m down to two days or really one to decide and its between these two. Been to both…LOVE both…and think that I can imagine myself at both.

For Penn: Likes- Prestige, Dorms, research opportunties, career options, fact that I’m in a great city, not too far from home, and heard that the Bio department is really good.
Dislikes- LOCATION cause I heard that safety is often times an issue at penn, worried about which dorm I would get, professors might not be as accessible , large classes

For W&M Likes-beautiful college like campus, location, safety, have good friends there, small classes, access to professors, food is good, quiet town, bio department is good
Dislikes- too quiet, not much to do except for frat parties, might not find people to relate to cause its small.

SOOOOOO…PLEASE HELP! Any advice will help especially those disproving my dislikes of Penn…Got full scholarship from W&M.

I also got into William & Mary, and though I never visited, I'm going to Penn. I would've recommended Penn in an instant before I read that last line...Yeah that does complicate things.

From everything I've heard, the safety at Penn isn't as big a deal as people make it out to be. I DID hear it from tour guides and people at the preview day, but the dorm security was very good (they wouldn't even let me in to just look around the Quad one last time) and I think that as long as you aren't just wandering around downtown alone late at night you should be fine.

Good luck with your decision, and make sure you get your housing in before May 1st if you go to Penn. Otherwise getting the right dorm would really be a problem.

yeah, one of my friends is a graduating senior at penn and he has never had anything bad (in terms of safety) happen to him. and i don't the classes are big

Faculty access isn't a problem at Penn. William and Mary is actually not significantly smaller than Penn.

Apparently it's not safer either....

"WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - The College of William & Mary stepped up security on campus Thursday after receiving several threats of violence concerning the last day of classes on Friday, the school's president said in an e-mail to more than 8,000 students, faculty and staff.

President Gene Nichol said the school had received several e-mail messages containing threats about the annual celebration on the last day of classes."

The acceptance rate for Penn and W&M is the same for OOS students (20%).

Penn is without a doubt more awesome. You can definitely use your W&M scholarship offer to squeeze a lot of financial aid from Penn.

Penn's student to faculty ratio is 7:1. Intro classes (like ECON-001, PSCI-001, PSYCH-001 etc) are huge but it quickly whittles down as you get more advanced. And of course there are freshman seminars offered to ensure that freshmen get exposure to small classes right away.

Even if you get put in a sucky dorm at Penn (as I did--Kings Court blows), it's only one year--and in some ways it is a blessing in disguise as it will compel you to spend more time out of your room meeting people, doing things, and taking advantage of all that Penn has to offer.

Um why are you guys responding to a thread that's more than a year old?

for giggles

Because we can!

holla at ya boi!

lol just had to do that
