Penn waitlist class of 2019

@interest82 I’m white and live in New Jersey if that’s any help haha, I have a 2260 SAT superscore and a 730 physics / 760 Math 1 and 730 Math 2 score and 3.98 unweighted GPA / 4.65 weighted and I’m the salutatorian of my school and got 5s and 4s on 5 AP exams last year. My original supplemental essay in my application was very dispassionate and I feel like that played a huge role in my wait listing but my update letter was SO passionate and so good. I structured it in the form of a little personal message at the beginning followed by a list of extra info I should have included on my original application, followed by a list of updates, followed by a little 2 paragraph thing about my passion for materials science and for Penn and how it was my number one choice. I really feel like I approached it perfectly and am really happy that they must have felt the same way. (I also sent an updated transcript, which was still all As for the year after third marking period even though I got a few B+s scattered throughout individual marking periods). If you want to know more about my app I’m pretty sure I posted a thread a while ago going into more depth with everything.

Update - my son got an email just now to check updates online , and he’s in! We are so thrilled!!! Now we have to hear the financial part of it…

Congrats to your son, simon2two! Was he also called on phone before he received the email? Also is he domestic/international?

@ItsBill Thank you! Domestic - NY. He got a call yesterday and was asked if he was still interested, but they didn’t say to expect an email or anything else to hint he got in.

Good Luck to everybody who continues to wait for the good news!

@simom2two Congrats to your son! Quick question: did he send in an update letter/upload a file?

Have international students been taken off already?

@Valeriamp I am an international student, but I haven’t heard from them yet. I have sent them a few updates and had my counselor email them too, but they didn’t answer any of my emails :frowning:

@pbateman - thank you! Yes, he sent an update letter a few days after he got a waitlist notification. He visited Penn and than he wrote about how he saw himself fitting into the Penn culture, something along those lines.

Do you know aproximately how many people has been admitted?

My son is wait listed but has heard nothing. His portal remains the same, no update. Did anyone call to ask them?

Anyone else receive an email stating to tell them whether you are still considering Penn?

@interest82 I am also on the Penn waitlist (been lurking on this thread awhile) and I got that email.

I got the email as well. Is this an extended waitlist sort of thing or did everyone get it?

Thats what I was wondering.

And by the way, you guys werent able to confrim right? Looks liek theyre having some sort of issue with the form.

Got the email as well. Did you have any problems with it? I just click the link, then some empty gray from appears, without any check-buttons. I can click submit, but I doubt it does what it is supposed to do.

Yeah they said they are having problems when I called up.

I think this is a way for them to politely reject students while maintaining a good relationship with their high schools… Unless someone got rejected today, this email means nothing (they didn’t even bother to make sure that the form works?)

So this is not the same as the extended waitlist that students from previous years discussed?
